EBF babies... What is feeding schedule?

How often does your EBF LO eat during the day? Mine is 13 weeks today and still eating every 2-2.5 hours. He eats for about 20 minutes each feeding. Just wondering when they start to go longer between feedings?

Re: EBF babies... What is feeding schedule?

  • Mine still nurses every 2 hrs, for about 5-10 minutes. And only takes 30 minute naps. I'm hoping he starts sleeping longer and eats a little less frequently in the next couple months.

  • DS nurses every 3 hours during the day. Once or twice at night. But I feed him on a schedule because he never shows me signs of hunger. Of course if he's crying and I can't figure out why I would nurse him to rule out hunger.

He's always been a fast nurser. 5 minutes maximum on each breast. He'll be 14 weeks tomorrow.
  • I EBF when I'm home from work (LO gets about 4oz formula during the work day since I don't pump enough). My nursing sessions last 10-15 min and usually every 2-3 hours, sometimes more often because he's a snacker. LO will nap for about 30-60 min, sometimes 2 hours if we luck out. At night I nurse around 7pm, he's asleep by 8:30, up at 1:30 to eat, up at 3:30 or 4:30 to eat, and then I wake him up around 7 if he's not already waking up so I can nurse again.
  • Every 1-2 hours, for 30-40 minutes. Also sleeps max 5 hours at night.

Interestingly, he eats faster and is more focused if we are out of the house and I'm using a nursing cover. That blocks out all the action from his field of view so he's not distracted.

My LO is 11 weeks. He eats around 5:00am, 7:30am, 10:30am, 2:30pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm & 10:00pm. He nurses between 15-30 minutes at eat feeding. He naps from 9-9:45, 12-2:30, 4:45-5 and goes to bed at 7:00pm.
  • We are at 13 weeks today and my daughter eats every 1-1.5 hours (if counting from when they are done eating not starting). She eats about 20 minutes per side each time. I am ok with this because she sleeps 8-10 hours every night and a 3-4 hour nap during the day. So, due to those long stretches I assume she needs to eat more often during the day.
  • We follow an eat, play, sleep routine, so the time in between feedings really depends on how long DD naps.

She is awake for about 1hr 45m between naps, so if she takes a 45 minute nap, then there's about 2.5 hours between feedings.  Last Sunday she took a 2 hour nap in the morning and a 2 hour nap in the afternoon (!), so there was actually about 4 hours between the first few feedings.

My son got on a fairly consistent 3 nap schedule around 4 months, so then we were nursing 5 times during the day - first thing in the morning, after each nap, and before bed.  The times were roughly 7:00, 10:30, 2:00, 5:30, 7:00.
  • Just about 12 weeks and we are still *trying* to stick with eat, play sleep.  So on a day this works in my favor he eats at 2am, 5am, depending on if he goes back to sleep or not he may eat again at 7am.  Then he naps 8:30-11:30 or 12 and then eats at 12, sleeps 1:30-3:30 eats at 3:30, sleeps 5-7:30/8 and again right before I put him in his crib, usually around 10 then sleeps until 2am.  Sometimes he takes shorter naps, sometimes he goes to bed earlier or later.  I would say on average he eats every 3 hours for 10 - 20 minutes each feeding.  Although when he wakes up at 2am he eats much faster, maybe because he doesn't have to try as hard because I'm fuller?

THIS exactly! Except she's 13 weeks on Friday.

This is me and DS exactly!
  • Starting at midnight this was our usual schedule before the last couple days of (?)growth spurt

    230, 530, 730 (up for the day) - all 5-10mins
930 (20 mins) then usually down for a decent sized nap sometime between 10 and 1030
    1230 (20 mins)
Then the afternoon is usually more unpredictable. Sometimes she clusters with catnaps in between, other days she'll nap for an hour and a half to two hours and eat again around 330-4
6pm, 7pm each 30 ish mins and then "bedtime"
Sometimes she'll eat at 11pm when I'm going to bed, other times she's out until the 230ish feeding
