Dizziness from food or heat?

I'm gonna call my doctor but has anyone been getting especially dizzy during this summer heat? New England has been humid and unbearable and I'm only 22 weeks. 2 weeks ago I started a part time job before my school job starts in sept and just from standing and walking I was getting dizzy. Thought it was over until today I was at the hardware store with husband getting remodeling stuff and just from being there I had to sit. Had water, ate an hour before going. I'm worried about going back to work at school where I work one-on-one with a student. What if I faint? What if I get dizzy and can't focus?

  • I dont know how to answer your questions. But i feel the same. Im 21 weeks and yesterday i got up earlier than usual and i did my normal thing.. Got up ate, got dressed and then i was actually having my mom take my 21 week picture and i felt extremely dizzy and light headed i thought oh my god i need to lay down before i actually go down. After i laid down for about 10 minutes and i ate 2 pieces of toast i felt better..

  • I had the same issue and nearly passed out around 20 weeks. My doctor said it was totally normal for that time period and advised me to watch my blood sugars and listen to my body. Sounds like you are already doing the second part by sitting when needed, etc. If it is any consolation, I havent had an issue since I started taking her advice.

  • I went through an incredibly dizzy phase from 12-18 weeks. It was also the hottest time of the year. My doctor said I had orthostatic hypotension. Basically whenever I went from laying down to sitting or sitting to standing, I would get the feeling of collapsing due to a drop in blood pressure. It would continue until I drank something or sat down again and got up more slowly. I increased my fluids by double and it has improved a lot. I also pump my feet now before standing up, as my doctor suggested.
  • I'm fainting quite regularly and I posted a thread on this in the December 2015 mom board. It's safe as long as your O2 levels are sufficient and you don't take a dangerous fall. And it's common in pregnancy.

A lot of things may be causing this, including heat. It could be a vasovagal response. It could be due to lifestyle (diet, exercise, how much water you're getting, or, in my case, if you're flying twice a week, every week, which reduces blood oxygen more than you'd think) it could be due to anxiety.. there are a lot of things that can cause syncope.

Talk to your doctor. And try to see somebody when you have an episode, if possible. You can find out what your O2 and BP levels are.
  • It's possibly a drop in your blood pressure, possible fatigue, or both! I know when I go out in this heat, it messes with me. But my dizziness is due to my blood pressure dropping, as well as my bad sinuses and allergies! But if it continues to get worse, I would go to the doctor, and see what's going on there.
  • The heat can definitely take a toll I passed out with my first as a bridesmaid in a wedding around 15 weeks. Drink lots of water and sit as needed. Also if your not on the GD diet keep a candy bar like a snickers in your purse. If your sugar is low it will help. You also might need to cut back on extra activities and rest and put up your feet.
