Infertility

Hello! Newbie here, with PCOS...and a few questions.

Hello! My names Nicole. I'm 28, and DH is 23. We have been TTC for a little over a year now. In May of this year I was diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor started me on Provera last month, and I went back to the doctor on day 21 to check for O, and we figured out that I don't ovulate. This month I started Provera again, and got AF 8/6, started 50mg of Clomid day 3-7 (8/8 - 8/12) . I was really worried that Clomid wasn't working as I had nearly no side effects. (only thing notable was a lot of very vivid dreams) I went back to my gyno on CD 12 (8/17) for a sonogram. They found about 9 follicles in total, most were 13mm or under, my right ovary had one dominant follicle that was 16.9mm. My doctor asked me to come back today (8/18) for another sonogram. My dominate follicle grew to 21mm (in one day!!!) the others stayed around the same as yesterday. I thought we were also going to have an HCG shot today, but today my doctor decided it was too risky as I have 9 follicles, and she thought my risk for multiples would be too high. Its sort of disheartening, but I understand. I have a few questions:

I've been taking OPKs twice a day since CD9 and none show even a faint test line. Is that normal? I've read that people with PCOS have high LH, and usually have a faint line. Should I be worried that I'm not showing a faint line at all? I'm using cheap ebay OPKs, I'm a POAS addict so I thought it would be a cheaper route.

Does Clomid actually help you ovulate, or does it just boost your follicle size? I'm worried that I won't ovulate now, since I'm not getting an HCG shot.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks =]

  • I am not positive but I think Clomid is supposed to help you ovulate, so there is a chance you might ovulate without the shot.

  • Clomid is supposed to be for ovulation
  • @k0leslaw , I too used Clomid for 3 cycles only to find after all my detailed diagnostics that my fibroids, possible endo and possibly were making it impossible to remain pregnant and at my age. My doctor advised lap surgery to correct these and have better chances. My point is that if there are underlying factors such as pcos, confirm with your doctor if Clomid is sufficient for you. ..best of success!
