Baby Movements

hello ladies,

I am 24 weeks pregnant. From past two days my baby's movements have gone too feeble. Earlier I used to feel strong kicks but not for past two days. Any idea why this is happening? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

Re: Baby Movements

  • I was a little worried a few weeks ago, and read a similar post to this one.  It got the same advice, but one person said, track how long it takes to feel 10 movements.  If it's over an hour (two hours? I don't recall) then call your OB and see what she thinks, that poster also reassured that it's still early though, and 10 in an hour might just still be a lot.  I decided to try it out, I drank some juice, laid down, and really focused on the baby movements, and I felt 10 in seriously less than 10 minutes.  I think when you stop worrying, and really just sit with the intention of feeling baby move, and don't let things distract you, you'll be amazed at how much is going on down there! And, if you do that, and still don't feel a lot of movement, it still doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong.  I still go through a couple days in a row where it seems like I'm not feeling much, and then the next day, she'll kick up a storm.

  • Interesting I guess different OBs and circumstances will yield different tracking timelines. (My OB tracks during 3rd semester)

I think you only track your baby's movements during the 3rd trimester.
I mentioned multiple times that it's still early, and that you still might not feel movement every day.  Many PPs mentioned tracking typically starts at 28 weeks.  I wasn't telling her to start tracking every day, just said that it's amazing when you lay down and really focus on only movements, how much you can feel.  But thanks for your helpful advice.
  • I was already told to start tracking my kicks everyday because they put me at a high risk pregnancy, so they said basically 10 kicks within 2 hours, they recommended while I'm relaxing/laying down since its still hard to tell when you are out and about. They gave me a card to fill out each day. So if that helps 10 kicks within 2 hours

Thank you for clarifying.  I hope everything is going well :)
  • @garimamanishi I've been experiencing the same exact thing for the last two days
  • My OB had me start tracking movement at my 23 week appointment. She starts when movements are felt strong and consistent (whenever that is for each momma) but does a reduced count until the third trimester. So right now I'm supposed to do it twice a day (try to shoot for when baby is most active) and only need 3 movements in 1 hour.

If I don't get the three movements she said wait an hour or two and try again with the cold juice or milk and laying down and relaxing. If after the two attempts there's still nothing, that's when she wants me to call. They don't have to be strong, those little light taps and flutters count.

Honestly, it's helped me not worry as much about how much or how often Bun is moving. Any time I feel movement I look at the clock and count until I get three. As long as it happens more than once a day I'm happy.
  • I had the same worry. For two days I didn't feel anything oddly, and now I feel him again, but it feels like he's going between squishing my bladder or head butting my cervix. No pain, just startles me when it happens lol.
  • I am 23 weeks and found that our little girl moves around a lot when I eat sugary things...more specifically my new pregnancy obsession, cold zebra cakes from the fridge!

OMG, yes! That was a major craving for me early on this pregnancy. Even better, for my SIL's birthday my brother had a specialty cake made for her that was a giant zebra cake. It was too sweet for most people so I got a couple extra helpings. It was amazing.
  • Im 22 weeks pregnant, I don't feel my Little one more often. I'm extremely worried, is it normal or worrying?
  • I'm 22 weeks. Babies sleep as much as cats at this point, so it's not abnormal to not feel them for long periods of time.

From TheBump update for 22 weeks: "He's sleeping in cycles — about 12 to 14 hours per day (hint: they're probably those times you're not feeling any kicks!)."

I went to see my OB for a follow up app. and asked about having decreased fetal movement and was assured that it's totally fine and not to worry until the 28th week because they'll be more consistent by then.
  • @teila27 my DH loves those, and direct from the fridge as well. Except he is obviously not pregnant and discovered these treats well before I got pregnant so he can't use "sympathy cravings" as an excuse!
  • Thank you ladies for reassuring. Baby has become a karate kid again. Lol
  • Just found this thread because I was starting to freak out that baby wasn't kicking as strong. I found some website that says to call the doctor if you feel less movement because something could be wrong. I'm 24 weeks tomorrow. I have felt him today, throughout the day. I see the doctor on Friday. I hope it era back to normal!
  • I'm 26 weeks and I can feel my baby moving with extreme movement some days and not at all others. I find when I'm in loud and exciting environments she moves more and when we are in quiet or resting environments she moves less. I think it depends on the baby but they all react to different things.
