I failed my one hour glucose test and went in for my three hour test and couldn't stomach the sugary drink. I felt nauseous and wanted to throw up. It took me twenty minutes to finish just have of the little bottle. The lab tech said that it should have been done in 5 minutes and now its no point to even take the test and that I would have to come back and start all over again. I don't want to put my body through that again. My one hour results were 175 with the cut off being 140.
Re: Did anyone opt out of having their 3 hour glucose test after failing the 1 hour test?
In return, I told my doctor I couldn't take more time off work to come and redo the 3 hour test. She diagnosed me as a gestational diabetic so I could get a machine and testing strips and I have to self test 4 times a day for the next week. I have to take all my results with me to my appt next week and she will reevaluate it. She said it would be a lot more accurate than the 3 hour test so not to worry about it. I'm 30 weeks today.
I decided to opt out because I didn't want to go trough the 3-hour test and fail knowing I had the option to just start changing my diet and monitoring my blood sugar right away. I was suspecting I might have GD anyway because my weight gain increased suddenly despite my diet staying the same, and at my 31-week appointment, I was measuring 34 weeks.
You can't opt out just because it's inconvenient. You can, as PP said, take the test to give yourself the peace of mind that you don't have GD (assuming you pass). Or you can opt out and start counting every carb and checking your blood sugar 4 times a day. There's no easy way out, unless you want to risk the health of your baby.
Monitor my sugar for 3 weeks straight- 4 times at day! If all is good after that- they don't have to see me anymore. All my sugar numbers are normal. I find this a complete waste of time!
I'm not even close to being overweight or having high blood pressure and I feel great! For me personally- I really wish I had not taken any glucose test! The worst part is, my ob said the test was completely optional?!!!

I just had my 1 hr glucose test over the weekend and the results came back high at 174. It was a surprise given that I haven't gained much weigh in my pregnancy yet (5 lbs for 24 weeks). Where do I go from here? Should I contact my doctor for the 3 hr test or do I wait for my next appmt with OB doctor? Please advise.
It's kind of a PITA to check your sugar 4x a day, but the diet part isn't so bad. If you're eating pretty clean and getting plenty of protein now, you may not have to change much. But even if you have to go on glybyride or insulin, it's not so bad for a couple months.
I failed my 1 hour glucose test with a 151.... took the 3 hour test which I felt was not too bad... I also had the orange liquid and it was chilled a bit so maybe that is why it was a bit more bearable.
The only instructions I was given was to fast. I started fasting at 12:10am the night before as I returned from vacation really late because our flight was delayed and we were stuck sitting in the plane on our way back from vacation due to windy conditions and my husband insisted that I must eat and baby as well as I was super hungry ... there was no real food on the plane and we only had breakfast .... I was told no water during the test. I did drink a little water in the morning because I felt dehydrated from the flights (1 connecting flight).... I started the test at 9:10am and did feel light headed during the test but it might have been hunger kicking in .... I'm waiting to receive my results. Hopefully I will pass this second test.
For those of you who need to monitor your sugar did the doctor set you up with the finger stick apparatus or did you have to work with your insurance to get all the supplies? I have UHC and found it a pain to get my Rhogam injection and if I land out having GD, I rather be prepared for the hassle ahead of time. Thanks!
