This is us, too. I'd love if it was closer to 8 but its better than before.

  • i put 9-10, but really it's whenever baby wants to go to sleep. It's usually 9:40, but sometimes it's 7pm or 1am. Idc about setting a schedule until 4m
  • I put 8-9 but sometimes he gets cranky and goes down as early as 7. It's usually a long night of waking up repeatedly when that happens though. It's usually closer to 9.
  • First sleep after 9 is bedtime
  • Sometimes 8 sometimes 10, tonight was 7:15. Depends how well naps go.
  • 9pm on the dot. He gets in the shower at 8. Then gets his sleepy time lotion and a little massage, I feed him about 30 minutes til he falls asleep.
  • Between 7-8 every night. Sleeps until about 7:30 the next day, she has had a bed time routine since 6 weeks.
  • @LadyBlood you put your baby in the shower? How does that work exactly? We have a stall shower only and just use the baby tub on the kitchen counter next to the sink.
  • 10 then sleeps till 3 before waking for a feeding! Is awesome!
  • @LadyBlood my baby is the same! She's like a little clock, 8:30 every night. I almost wish it was even half hour later so that it's closer to my bed time, but I love that I know she'll be sleeping at that time every night.
  • Goes to sleep between 7:30pm-8:00pm then sleeps until between 7:00am-8:00am :)
  • I'm just trying to start the routine thing and try for 8-9pm. DH doesn't get home from work until 7:30/8 and I don't like it when she's in bed already and he doesn't really get to see her, so 8-9 seems like a reasonable bedtime
That allows him to spend some time with her (and gives me a break for an hour or so!)

I need an after midnight option!! I have a baby vampire apparently.

It's not easy alone, so it's usually a two man job but he loves it, just hearing the shower calms hum at night. But my husband or I will get in with him and hold him in the shower and the other one will wash him up and his hair on wash days, otherwise it's mostly just a great skin on skin bonding time for dad and baby. My baby got too cold in the kitchen and our bathroom is too small and the infant tub we got sucked so we just decided to put him in the shower, careful of his head of course. We've been doing it since he was about 2 weeks old and he's 14 weeks now and loves it.
  • My baby goes down every night at 10 pm. And sleeps till about 8:30. Then back down till 11 or 12. It's a blessing.
  • @lmbovy11 - I am so incredibly jealous right now it's not even funny. DS usually goes to bed around 7:30-8, is up between 2:30-4 to eat and then up for the day between 5:30-6. Him sleeping until 7 would be AMAZING!!!!
  • My LO is usually down between 6:30/7 and sleeps for 12 hours! The key to an earlier bedtime for us was not letting her nap after 5pm, so if she's rubbing her eyes and fussy and tired at 5:15 she goes in her swaddle and into the crib for bed. The first few days she was going to bed at 5:30pm but now she can stretch it to 6:30/7ish. My husband sometimes gets home after that and doesn't get to see her before bed but my priority is getting her in bed before she gets overtired, I send him lots of pictures during the day and he always goes in to give her a kiss when he gets home!

A lot of research I've read suggests that at this age their bedtime should be between 6-8pm in order for them to be getting the amount of nighttime sleep they need.
  • I agree @alliebsmith. My problem is that if I put DS down between 5-6:30 he treats it like a nap. So I end up putting him down for bed because he's tired and he ends up waking up 45 minutes later ready to play. Last night we had a successful 6:30 bedtime and he slept until 6:30am. But he still had 2 feeds in the night. But I also think we are at the 3 month growth spurt and possibly the sleep regression.
  • My son fell into a bedtime by himself around 3 months. I was battling him and his soon to be 3 yr old brother every night to go bed. I hated bedtime. Now the baby is in bed by 730 with out having to be rocked or anything. Sometimes he fusses but I let him be and falls asleep shortly after. Still wakes up ever 4-5 hrs.

I work 3 12hr shifts and don't get home till 9. I had to work this weekend and didn't really see the baby. When I get home I just see my older one right before he goes to bed. Even though I miss them I know it is better for them to get their sleep. Plus on my days off it makes it easier for the baby to go to bed first to have time with the older one.

  • I am beyond jealous of all these babies who can go down so early and in their own. DS used to be a great sleeper but for 2 weeks now he has been waking up every 3 hours. The past two nights I've tried letting him fuss instead of going in to nurse him. And I'm laying here listening to him right now and he's been awake for almost two hours. He's not even crying now. He's just making noises. I don't know what to do. I feel like he's more wide awake now than he would be if I just nursed him back to sleep.
  • Mine goes to bed pretty close to 7:15pm every night. Then he tends to be up at midnight, 3am and 5am for quick feeds, before getting up for the day around 7:30 (followed by a nap at 9am). Need to work on kicking out the midnight and 3am feeds!
  • My LO goes and takes a bath or a shower (he loves the shower as well - with that I usually sit on the bathtub floor with him and let his little body hang out in the water and keep the water away from his face) at 7pm. Gets a lotion massage, a book, eats in the rocking chair and is off to bed by 7:45-8pm for the night. Will wake up at 2am and 6am to eat for 10 minutes then will wake up for the day at 8-9am
  • My little man was going down around 830pm-9pm and sleeping until 3ish.  Now he is down between 730pm and 8pm and waking at 1am and 5am.  He only wakes to eat and then falls right back asleep but I am exhausted.  LO is 3 mos on Thursday.
  • Lurking from June... DS was a few weeks early and born May 21st, so I may be checking this board more frequently... I'm a FTM from NJ.

I was keeping him up until 10 or 11, so that I would only have to wake up once in the MOTN. Now, he has been starting to get tired between 8-9. Rather than have him nap, or keep him up, we just do an earlier bedtime. His first stretch is usually 4-5 hours, and his next two stretches are 2.5-3 hours. Fortunately, he is good about eating and going back down without fussing. He talks to himself, and moved around a bit, but is able to fall asleep relatively quickly on his own.

He will be 3 months on Friday, and I'm praying that he will start to sleep longer stretches. I'm jealous of those of you whose LO sleeps through the night. Any tips?
