Bells Palsy!!

Has anyone heard of Bells Palsy after giving birth? We left the hospital last Monday after having a C section and my face started dropping on one side and I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy. From what I have read it goes away on it's own but this is the worst timing while I am trying to get used to being a mom of 2! Anyone have any advice?? It's making it tough to enjoy my new little guy :(

Re: Bells Palsy!!

  • I have heard of it happening and I'm sorry it's happening to you! I can't believe the range of weird and rare conditions you can get temporarily from being pregnant! I hope yours clears up soon!!

  • I had Bells Palsy after having my wisdom teeth removed, the dentist hit a nerve while removing a tooth. I went to my primary doctor and she prescribed prednisone and it corrected itself over time. I would check with your doctor. Good luck, I hope you feel better!
  • A friend had it for a few weeks. I know he was given a script by the doc buT I am not sure what it was. So sorry you are dealing with this right now! Feel better soon and try to enjoy your family!

  • From O15! I had it a few years ago... I was put on prednisone and an anti-viral because they didn't know what caused it. It'll take a while to go away, but it will. It might even hurt when the nerve is correcting itself. It's not something that'll keep you out of the game. It's just a pain in the tush. I had to tape my eye closed at night to keep the light out, and drink through a straw. Hope they can give you some steroids to hurry the healing process along!
  • I had it this past november... Very scary as it comes out of nowhere. Steroids and facial exercises helped alot and I have no residual droop or slurred speech. Good luck and remember its temporary!!
  • My hubby has had it twice. Take the meds and an eye patch can help you sleep. Also artificial tear drops help if your eye gets dry.

this is good advice.  Take the eye patch!
I had a bells palsy 3 days before I delivered.  I thought the pain was worse than delivering a baby with no meds!  My face went back 100% and fairly quickly.  My sister had one recently though and it took her closer to a month to get her face back to normal.   Best of luck to you and I am so sorry your are going through this, it SUCKS
