so my son started having really bad tummy aches and acid reflux a few weeks ago. Per his pediatrician I changed his formula to alimentum he was having even worse acid reflux with that and we recent switched him to good start gentle.. He's doing better but the pediatrician has told me to stop breast feeding... That he has a protein allergy and it must be my breast milk. Wth!? I haven't heard of that. I haven't breast fed him for about a week and half now and it's killing me. I'm so depressed and sad that I can't breast feed my baby . Has anyone heard of this before??
Re: Baby allergic to protein in breastmilk!?
Milk and soy proteins are passed into your breastmilk. Even if you stop today, it takes an entire TWO WEEKS for all the milk protein in your body to be gone. Then, it takes an additional TWO WEEKS for any residual milk protein to leave your baby's body. If you want to continue breast feeding, you absolutely can. You can opt to eliminate milk and soy or start with just milk and see what happens. Even though it takes a full 4 weeks of no milk to be "all clear", you should see results within a few days of eliminating milk yourself. As long as you're eliminating it all (milk, butter, cheese, etc. and any processed foods that contain dairy).
