Best Ways to Meet New (Local) Mommy Friends?

I've been meeting quite a few new people on The Bump boards, but find myself wanting to make some local mommy friends so that I have people to hang out with once the baby comes.  I am the first out of my group of friends to have a baby, so I feel the need to expand my group of friends to include some other moms.  I was thinking of signing up for some of the new parent classes my hospital offers in order to connect with local, first time moms like myself.  Have any of you tried this and made a few friends?  What other ways would you suggest to meet new parents who live in my area?  Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I've found Facebook groups for local area moms as well as using meet up and I met moms when I attended la Lache meetings.

Storytime! How could I forget about that?! Our library did story time and play groups based on the age of your child. I also did things through the park district and kid classes as he got older (swimming, gym)

  • I've made some friends through our local mom Facebook group but I've made most of my friends through a mom & baby stroller workout class. Check your local parks & recreation for pre and post natal classes.

  • I met a lot of other new mom's going to prenatal yoga classes, also hospital birthing and cpr classes, and I also frequently attended a free, weekly breastfeeding group. Try to find other moms with babies the same age (or due dates) and also with similar work schedules (or not working). I also joined some local mom groups on Facebook but I'm still a little weary of meeting strangers from the internet ;)

Nope. It's just a class through our recreation center. We do mostly resistance training with a little bit of cardio. The class is called Roll Baby Roll Stroller Bootcamp lol.

I went to a prenatal yoga class when I was pregnant with my son and met a bunch of girls who I became fast friends with.   There are four of us and we talk everyday, still do yoga once a week with the toddlers and go one play dates every few days.  Even our husbands became friends.  It was one of the best things I ever did.

  • If you frequent the same park often, you will see the same moms/kids/dads many times. My friend has a few mom friends just from seeing them often at the park.

What if I don't want to be friends with the kind of mom's that are at my local park... is it too uncool of me to hang out in the posh park?  My cover will be blown when I invite them over for tea!

(kidding, not kiding- we bought a house in a not so good area to get on the ladder and its great to get to work for both of us... we will move before LO starts school)

I feel like this should be a FFFC

  • I second prenatal yoga and classes. Also a lot of times a pediatrician office will have a new moms class too that I know a lot of people usually meet friends though.
