Evening screams...please tell me there is an end in sight!

Hi all...FTM here and my LO is 6 weeks old. She HATES the hours between 4/5 and 10 pm everyday. She has pretty much always been fussy during these hours and lately it is pure screams. To add to that- my hubby went back to work (he is an awesome hubby and dad!) and works odd hours...mainly nights and evenings so he is either sleeping, or at work when she is at her worst! I have driven myself crazy trying to figure out a reason for the crying and I've decided it's gotta just be the "period of purple crying". Please tell me this ends!? I am mentally exhausted :(

Your situation is the same exact as mine!!! Husband works nights and he just went back to work. My 6 week old LO has meltdowns everyday between 7 and 9.
I'm exhausted by that time since I have been alone all day while husband is asleep. Hoping the meltdowns go away.
I know my post doesn't help you, but just wanted you to know you are not alone!
  • My post won't help neither but don't feel alone. My LO is six weeks and he cries between 6-8. I sometimes cry with him. I try everything I seriously don't know what is wrong. I do the check list is he hungry, has a dirty diaper or needs to burp, if not I just bounce him in the bouncer or walk around the house. Until he calms down. Good luck and hopefully it will end soon.
  • My LO did too then I realized she is cluster feeding. At 4:30 she gets hungry then she would scream at 5:30 & I couldn't figure anything out, knowing she ate an hour ago. But she was. So she clusters from 4:30/5:30 until bedtime which is about 8:30/9. Every hour, every evening. Sometimes she eats 5 minutes, sometimes 20. Before the last feeding at 8:30 ish I'll change her in her PJ's then put her to bed after she eats. Could it be this?
  • My pediatrician said most babies have a witching hour in the evening normally 6-8. They're just fussy. He said it goes away after a couple months but it's frustrating! We do lots of happiest baby on the block tricks.
  • Same here except ours is pretty much anytime from 7pm - 1am depending on the day. Bedtime is just this horrible battle of trying to put him down, him falling asleep for 5-10 minutes and then him waking up crying again. This just goes on and on but we can't figure out what else to do. Hopeful that it will pass soon!
  • My girls witching hours are reversed she does her fussing in the mornings from 9ish to 1 ... Very strange
  • I'm not happy anyone else is goin through this but at the same time I'm glad I'm not alone...everyone says that this won't go on forver..but man it sure feels like it some nights! We too so the 5 S's and they seem to help sometimes but don't put her to sleep or keep her asleep
  • @Natjune I hope things get better for you soon!! We just have to keep saying eventually she won't do this!
  • Try this!! It worked for me, calms him down every time. :-) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eK4O9N3DjJM
  • This happens to us around 7-8pm. It sounds funny but I think our LO is just sick of looking at us and wants alone time. We put him in his crib, turn on the mobile that plays soft music (his slow jams) and he immediately calms down and becomes enamored with the lights. When we see him starting to doze off we swaddle him and He's usually asleep in 20minutes
Side note: I could be wrong and I almost hate mentioning it but I thought colic starts around 6 weeks and it's usually the dreaded 3's. Baby cries for three hours (usually during the same timeframe), for three weeks ending usually by three months.
  • This is discussed in Week 10, if you read the baby updates every week. I use the mobile app so I'm not sure if the website looks the same.
  • I feel like life gets a little easier at month 3. Our daughter cried for an hour straight every night at 7pm sharp. I wouldn't even have to look at the clock; I knew what time it was. It stopped at 3 months. Hang in there. Try a bath during that time, a car ride, or turning the lights down. Babies have to tire themselves out for bed, so hopefully she is sleeping well for you!!

Goodness can we relate!!!! We figured it's a bit of colick and general tummy problems as their intestinal track gets used to, ya know, living! We have been giving him Gerber Soothe drops, an infant probiotic, for two weeks now and it's made a world of difference!!! $25 for a 25 day supply but I would spend double if I had to because it works so well. We also suspected he has reflux and after talking to our ped it turns out he does which also makes the fussiness worse. He is taking Zantac...I'm not a huge fan, but it works, and if he is comfy then I am too. I have heard chiropractors can help with reflux too...so I am intrigued. Hope this helps! Good luck!
