Attention mommas that pump

Did you know you can put your pump parts in the fridge instead of washing them after every pump?

On the la leche league forums, this was discussed! They say for up to 7 days!

What are your thoughts and/or experience with this?

Re: Attention mommas that pump

  • If that is true, I may be the happiest woman in the world. Like I didn't have enough dishes to wash before I started pumping!
  • Loading the player...
  • I heard this too, but haven't actually tried it yet. I still disinfect after every pump session :(

I keep them refrigerated in a Ziploc for 24 hours, but after that I wash them.

  • That may be just the motivation I need to pump more often! Haha.

Since discovering this la leche league post, after pumping I place the parts in a ziploc bag and place it in the fridge. When it's time to pump, I take the parts out, seal the bag and leave it in the fridge. I wash every 12 hours since I have to wash bottles as well. So far, I'm much happier not having to wash after EVERY SINGLE pumping session... Especially during the night!

Glad to have lightened some of your loads mommas!!! :D

  • Yes! I actually just learned this today at a lactation support group I attended
  • Been doing it since day one. Havent had a problem !!
  • What??? You just made my day!!
  • Honestly, I bought a few extra pieces so I don't have to wash them every single time. I go every 3 pumpings and then wash all 3 sets. It worked out way better for me and keeps me sane!
  • Oooh ty for this! Wish I would have known when I was pumping after every feed lol bit good to know for sure!
  • .......goodness gracious someone should have told us this earlier!

Just saying.. I read this pregnant and while he was just born I was in hospital for a lengthy time so never got to refrigerate them. Only washed once a day then the rest of the times rinsed with warm water dried and Carried on. It's been 6 weeks since he was born. I never had an issue with anything so far, as since I have been home we do the same. I wash once a day and don't even refrigerate after each pump, just rinse with warm water. And after each pump I just wipe with the nipple pad or a Kleenex
And most the time use lanolin. My OB actually recommended instead of lanolin using breast milk , keeping it around the nipple and it does the same. Like I said, I have had no issues with anything so far.

I do this too. I would only refrigerate them if I didn't have a sink to rinse them but otherwise I've been rinsing with hot water after each use and washing once a day.
