I haven't been able to sleep for a week... I am desperate for some zzzz's. The fatigue game has come on strong too, so that combined with sleep deprivation is driving me insane!
I know you can take Benedryl to help but I have not tried it yet.
I am in the same boat. I am up super early. I can't fall asleep. I am exhausted all the time. Yesterday after a week of not sleeping I finally crashed after work on the couch for a 2-hour nap. Of course that meant I could not fall asleep at night.
I thought this was supposed to be the time where we get to enjoy sleep?
I've been on and off the insomnia/fatigue train too. Some things that have worked for me: reading in bed, taking a bath, getting a massage from DH, and using a heating pad before I fall asleep.
My doc recommended having a kids' dose of Benadryl at night to help with my issues getting to bed (and my allergies). It's helped me fall asleep. I'm still up 60-90 minutes before my alarm each day, but I'm starting to make a game out of what I can accomplish during that time. Today I reinforced a button on a suit jacket, got in a little bit of cardio, did the dishes, and got to work super early...
I use to have major insomnia issues, not pregnancy related. A naturopath had me take fish oil & magnesium citrate an hour before bed and eat a small snack of protein and/or dairy. She okayed those through pregnancy too and they seem to help!
I am having this problem. I was yawning all afternoon but I couldn't fall asleep when I laid down for a nap. Also, I can still stay up until 11! I keep waiting for this fatigue to kick in!
I have heard good things about Natural Calm helping. I've always just dealt with it by trying to turn off screens before bed and not reaching for my phone in the middle of the night (easier said than done)
An update... I tried the benedryl.. It worked okay! But I think I figured out why I am so restless, it's my vivid dreams. They are so vivid, I almost feel awake.
My dreams have been so vivid - and a lot that are scary (being chased, bloody, death). Last night I was on a boat being attacked by a pod? school? of angry orcas. apparently shamu is out for revenge.
I also am having a hard time getting to sleep - i have tried exercise, herbal tea, higher AC, lower AC, new sleeping positions and my DH is a light sleeper so once i'm up he is up and that keeps me up
I have been dealing with insomnia way more than being really tired. I already have to get up 2x a night to use the bathroom and it takes me an hour to fall back asleep. I'm too nervous to take medicine or anything before my 1st appointment so I'm just dealing with it right now
I've been having trouble sleeping too. It's hard to get to sleep, and once I'm asleep, any little thing wakes me up and it's hard to get back to sleep. I've been taking a 250mcg dose of melatonin and that seems to help. I haven't asked my doctor about it, but from what I can see online melatonin seems to be ok for pregnancy.
So I tried children's benedryl over the weekend because I was desperately in need of sleep, but it did not work out well for me. It did make me sleepy, but it also intensified my already intense nausea. I would sleep for an hour, wake up throw up, fall back asleep and repeat all night long. Back to the drawing board for me...
I haven't been able to fall asleep before midnight any day this week and I am still up by 7. I just feel wide awake! Even throughout the day. Sometimes I feel tired but when I lay down to nap, I just can't. Yesterday I took my first nap for an hour. Woke up tired but wide awake if that makes sense.
I actually took melatonin for the first couple of days. I was misinformed by a pharmacist that this was okay. I spoke to the nurse in my OB office and she said NOT to take melatonin. Benadryl is ok though. It's been working great for me. Good luck!!
I'm having the same issue. I am EXHAUSTED during the day but wide awake when I should be going to bed at night. Any suggestions of what to do during the day to not feel sooo exhausted?
I'm exhausted and nauseous throughout the day...wish I could do anything relaxing but with an 11 month old it's non stop play, eat, change, repeat from 6:30 am til about 7:00 pm at which point I have to make dinner, clean up dinner etc. Napping with a baby at home isn't easy! I feel for ya ladies, sleep is crucial.
I've been waking in the middle of the night a few times per week and not being able to fall asleep for a couple of hours. Sucks, but is pretty normal for me even when not pregnant. When there's too much going on in life or work it tends to happen to me more. I have trouble shutting off my brain. However, the fatigue that I'm feeling (even when getting a good nights sleep) isn't helping.
Glad I'm not the only one ... It takes me forever to fall asleep, I am up 2-3 times throughout the night, then when my DB comes to kiss me goodbye at 5:00 am - it is impossible to fall back asleep! Just wish I could get a normal nights sleep, but also scared to take anything until I have my 1st doctor's appt.
Is it falling asleep or staying asleep? I like to get away from TV/computer/phone and read for a little bit before I go to bed, helps me fall asleep. However, lately I've been waking up at 4 and 5 AM because I reallllly have to pee and can't go back to sleep.

Ladies! Last night was the first night of good sleep in 2 weeks! I didn't do much, other than calm down. I just feel like I have been so terrified that something will happen to the baby that I haven't been able to relax.
I went from sheer exhaustion and falling asleep immediately to laying in bed for at least an hour waiting for sleep. My fatigue seems to have turned around rapidly and now I am awake all day and antsy. I think tonight I am going to start winding down around 9 and see if that helps sleep come any faster. Especially since I am up at least twice to use the toilet. My doctor said unisom would be safe to take, I also have an anxiety disorder so evenings are typically my worst time of day. Early pregnancy was the only time in the past 7 years that I have been able to sleep without some type of sleep aid. Probably the only thing about the fatigue that I didn't mind was the ability to fall asleep without issue.
It's 2:15 am where I am and I'm looking up insomnia on the bump. My third pregnancy and this has never happened before! My heart goes out to those who deal with insomnia on a regular basis!
I've been taking B6 and a half of a Unisom each night to help with nausea and it's worked wonders for my insomnia. Unlike my experience with Benadryl, I wake up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night without feeling groggy and fall back to sleep quickly. But I still have really vivid dreams and experience the fatigue during the day. Good luck! I hope you get some sleep!
Try writting a journal before bed. Dreams are your brains way of filing your info for the day, every thought, sound, sight, it can be a lot to turn off. So writing it down will help let your mind take a break from doing double time at bed. Also try less LCD screens before bed or use a dimmer (like I am) to help remove excess brain connection not needed before bed. It helps but I'm to eager to research for me to sleep these nights 8-}
Re: Insomnia anyone? Any advice...
