Abdominal Pain & Viability Scan

Hi ladies... I'm posting to update you on what's going on with me. So last night I started having a pinching type pain when I'd lean forward. After a couple of hours it got worse and became a jabbing pain that I could feel with every step. By the time I went to bed I could feel it when I laid down and breathed deeply. The pain is about 2 inches to the left of my belly button and starts several inches down, then runs straight down in a line to the top of my pubic area. I could also feel it when I pressed on it with my fingers. At one point my husband tossed an arm across my abdomen in his sleep and I actually flinched and gasped it hurt so bad. When I woke up this morning the pain was completely gone, even if I push on it. I called my ob and they sent me for bloodwork today and a viability ultrasound tomorrow to rule out an ectopic. I'll be 7 weeks 4 days. I'm overweight, 5"7 220 lbs and I'm worried that they won't be able to see what they need to see. Does anyone have any experience with that type of pain or overweight early ultrasounds? I should also mention that I woke up with that same pain at 5 weeks, but it eased off over the course of the day and completely disappeared. For any of you who pray, please pray for the baby and me. Thanks so much ladies!

Re: Abdominal Pain & Viability Scan

  • It will probably be a vaginal ultrasound, so your weight won't matter. If you are right about your dates, you should be able to see a heartbeat.

  • Could it be round ligament pain?
  • Thanks Borg, Jackie that's what I'm hoping. This is my first pregnancy so I don't know what round ligament pain feels like. I don't know if it would hurt laying still. I was hoping that was what the doc would say!
  • I've had some sharp stabs like that... reminds me exactly of RLP. Let us know how it goes tomorrow!

  • My guess is RLP. It was worse with my first than what I am experiencing now

  • It sounds like RLP, but I'm glad you're getting blood work and a US to make sure everything is ok. Being overweight shouldn't impact the US, especially since they will likely do a transvaginal. Keep us updated, FX for all good news for you.
  • Thanks so much ladies. Have any of you had RLP at 7 weeks or earlier? I keep reading that it's supposed to be second trimester. Would it hurt when my hubby tossed his arm on my belly though?
  • I had it pretty much as soon as I got my BFP with DS & this one.
  • I would guess with an ectopic, you would have known by now. Mine was diagnosed right around 6 weeks and the tube was about to burst. Hopefully it isn't serious.
  • I did in week 5, and it hurt sitting, lying down, pretty much every which way except during yoga. It went away after a day or two though.
  • I've also had some RLP already so I wouldn't rule that out as the cause. Mainly when I sneeze or cough and don't "brace" myself first.

  • I will pray for you!
  • Great news, so glad it was a good outcome. Did they diagnose it as RLP?
  • No diagnosis yet, I didn't see the doc.
  • I had almost the exact same thing (mine wasn't quite that painful) happen a couple of days ago. I am 5 weeks 3 days with my 2nd and the doctor said it sounded like RLP. I thought it also might be a ruptured cyst.
  • Hmm thanks TTC that's what I'm thinking. It hit the first time at 5 weeks to the day, then didn't hit again until 7w2d
