This is my 4th pregnancy and we only had one make it to term. So, this time we prayed to make it past the dreaded 1st trimester and had ours and the baby's genetics tested. Everyone came back perfect. So, when we went for our anatomy scan last week I never expected anything to be wrong. I thought we were going to make it this time. Then the aweful news came- not enough amniotic fluid and the cause is unclear. We will retest later this week but if results do not improve it means I've got to be induced and we have to plan a funeral because a lack of fluid is not compatible with life at 19weeks. I will either develop infection, she will not have any developed lungs, or she will simply be crushed to death due to lack of free space......I was told the outcome could be somewhat more promising if only she were 23 weeks ( the age of viability outside the womb). We are devastated and praying for a miracle this next week. Please help us pray. *************Update 8/19*********
We have a diagnosis of bilateral multicystic kidneys. This is usually a fatal condition at 19 weeks; however, we have been referred to and are hopeful that the research team at Johns Hopkins can perform successful amnioinfusions so that her lungs will continue to develop until she can be delivered safely. She will need dialysis once born until she is 2 years of age and can receive a kidney transplant. It all seems daunting; however, given that she is perfectly normal in every other way we are cautiously optimistic. There has been one other baby that has had a worse situation than ours that is surviving wonderfully and due for her kidney transplant soon who was also treated at Hopkins. Please continue to pray and I will continue to bring updates as we have them. God bless!
