So bummed...

My 6 week old has apparently formed an intolerance to dairy. Because I am exclusively breastfeeding, I obviously have to cut out all of my dairy intake.

That alone sucks, but what I am more upset about is that the entire freezer of breast milk that I have already saved up, is completely useless.

Just wanted to complain...

Oh no! Hope your LO is feeling better without dairy, but tough on you!
  • Oh, she is a totally different baby! Happy as a clam lol
  • I thought about that last night right after I posted this. I haven't thrown any of it away yet, thank goodness. It really would have been very unfortunate if I had pitched it. I'd like at least someone to benefit from my loss!
  • A lot of babies grow out of this at a year of age so if you have a good deep freeze that you don't open much, you could potentially use the milk when they are closer to a year!
  • I don't :( Just a small, everyday freezer.
  • Are you near NY I just saw that a hospital was looking for donations. I could send you the info.
  • How did you find out about this dairy intolerance?
  • As soon as she hit the 6 week mark, she was screaming nonstop, very, very gassy, and was extremely constipated. She was constantly grunting and pushing with no results and I could tell that she was in pain. I tried everything possible to relieve her symptoms and to help her go to the bathroom but nothing worked.

I then looked up more information on what could cause constipation in a breastfed baby and a dairy intolerance or allergy were really the only reasons given because EBF children do not tend to get backed up.

I called my pediatrician and asked if it could be a possibility with her and she suggested that I try to cut out all dairy for a day and see how she would react. Her constipation let up, screaming passed and so did the gas!

I have continued to cut out dairy and like I said earlier, she is an entirely different baby. Not being able to eat everything I LOVE is totally worth it to ensure that her pain has stopped. It's heartbreaking to hear those screams coming from your baby :(
  • I am from Ohio so hopefully I can find some programs set up for donations around here. Oh and correction to the original post, she is now 7 weeks but her issues started at 6.
