Wasp sting!!

FYI.... Wasp stings are no fun.

Just got stung in the pool!! It landed on my shoulder and stung me. I hope it drowns! Ha! I think my friend held it under with his pool noodle. Haha.

Anyway.... I texted my doctor, and she said Tylenol and Benadryl are okay to take, then ice and then calamine lotion or baking soda and water paste on it after you've dried the melted ice and pool water. It feels better, a little, but still stings! Everyone was like "You handled that so well!! You were so calm!!" Good thing I'm the married one with a kid on the way, not them! :) I have a feeling I'll have to handle a lot of things calmly once baby Jack is here!! Haha!!

Re: Wasp sting!!

  • Was this the first time you've ever been stung? Those are pretty common remedies for wasp stings. The baking soda mixed with water works well. I've never felt the need to take medicine for a sting, unless someone is allergic.

  • First time. I know my mom had a bad reaction when she got stung on her hand a few years ago, so I took some Benadryl just in case. It hurt pretty sharply, maybe the chlorine in the pool made it worse.

Oh well! It only hurts for a little while. :)
  • I got stung by a scorpion not too long ago and my whole leg was numb for an entire day and my foot hurt so bad it felt like it was broken. Why can't bugs leave pregnant women alone?!
  • Oh no! My pregnant friend recently got stung by a yellow jacket and it wasn't healing after a few days so she went to her dr and had a severe skin infection and had to go on an intense antibiotic. Apparently wasps and yellow jackets often carry bacteria on their stingers so keep an eye on it!

I can't believe you've never been stung by a wasp. Our house growing up had a wasp infestation and I was stung at least monthly... I still am stung at least three times a year or more. They do hurt but only for about a minute then you forget about it. It's worse when you have multiple stings. I've had a wasp climb up my pant leg before and stung me six times before I could rip my pants off. Ugh. I have never tried a remedy for it though... It stops hurting too quickly to bother taking anything. Maybe some ice..
  • Thanks! It isn't even noticeable today! Guess I'm not allergic? :) I know - I've avoided bees and wasps for enough years, I guess.

I'll keep an eye on it, but I think it's okay now.

Yeah! Why can't bugs leave pregnant women alone?? Mosquitoes loved me before, now they love me even more!!!
  • I was 32 when I got my first wasp sting. Hornet and bee stings came at 37. Mosquitoes at birth. Bugs are weird. No remedies here though, just time. Sucks though.
