Postivie at home and negative at the doctor!

Has anyone been to the doctor to confirm pregnancy only to take a urine test at the doctor's office and it come back negative? So right now I'm slightly freaking out because I have taken 5 hpt and they have all been positive so I'm just a little worried and nervous! They did take blood to test but I will have to wait until Monday to hear the results! I'm about 5weeks and 3 days

Yep just last week. I had a couple good positives at home and then a urine test the same day at the doc that was negative. My urine was pretty diluted though and I don't think it was very sensitive. The doctor thought I was crazy for thinking I was pregnant and wouldn't do a blood test because she said they aren't much more sensitive. but the next morning I turned a digital and missed my period a few days later. Since then I've had plenty of obvious positives and I'm now 4 weeks 4 days. No worries just keep testing yourself too

The doctor took a blood sample and hopefully I will hear back from them soon! I wasn't given any prescription or anything!! Just hoping for the best with the blood results! Not sure what to expect with my first pregnancy!

You won't need a prescription for anything. Go get you some prenatal vitamins with folic acid and dha.

My first few tests were so faint, but I went to the dr anyways 3 days before my missed period and they said the results were inconclusive. Basically meaning the line was so light they didn't wanna tell me I was pregnant until it got darker because they've had a false positive before. I requested a blood test because I was too excited, which came back positive, but then I was obsessing over the beta number. If I could do it again I would have just wAited at least until my missed period.

ETA, you said you should be over 5 weeks? In my experience, a positive test should be blazing by then, and should definitely be picked up by any pregnancy test, even at the dr.

If you use a doctor, they make you. When I got my HPT+, I called the doctor and said I got a positive pregnancy test. They had me come in a few days later, pee in a cup to do a urine pregnancy test, then after it was confirmed they did a blood test and scheduled an ultrasound.

First pregnancy I came in for an appointment stating I had two positive at home tests and gave a blood sample that confirmed my pregnancy, second pregnancy was at a military clinic I had to give a urine sample to confirm after a positive at home test.

It probably depends on the office and possibly your insurance. I go to Kaiser In Northern California and all I had to do was call and tell them I needed to schedule a prenatal and they asked when my last period was, then scheduled me to come in at my 8 week mark. I asked what I should expect and they confirmed a sonogram

My doctor just believed me when I said I had a positive test and had me come in at 8 weeks for a dating ultrasound. I peed in a cup then but I don't think they did a pregnancy test at that visit...since I had an ultrasound it was pretty clear that there was a baby on board.

This was my obgyn that I go to for annual appointments though...I know that if the obgyn is new to you they will sometimes request that you go in earlier just for a pee test and paperwork. I have no idea why you'd ever get a blood test for confirmation unless you have a history of miscarriage and need the beta numbers. That is totally unnecessary.

Both of my pregnancies I've had a blood test for confirmation. It is possible to get a false positive on a urine pregnancy test.

Both of my pregnancies I've had a blood test for confirmation. It is possible to get a false positive on a urine pregnancy test.

False positives on pink dye urine tests that are used properly and read in the appropriate time window are extremely rare. If you see positives followed by negatives it's more likely to be a chemical pregnancy than a bad test.

I feel like its a waste of resources to insist on a blood test for confirmation of something that can be done with a $1 test at home, but I guess your doctor is extra cautious. I do not know anyone who has had a blood test that isn't high risk for some reason that required beta draws (2 within 48 hours).

I typically acknowledge that the woman who went to school for 8 years followed by numerous years of residency and fellowships knows better than I about what is necessary for my care.

I go to an Indian clinic and they make you pee in a cup before they will schedule an actual appointment! They have to have documentation of a positive test!

No fortunately. Dh is military, so as long as I'm seen at a military treatment facility we pay nothing. If I were to be seen off base I would have copays though.

When I was pregnant with DD, my OBGYN made me pee in a cup when I transferred from the RE. Not only did I have a series of betas, I had had 4 or 5 ultrasounds. It was obnoxious for sure. I guess procedure is procedure.

You generally have to pee in a cup every time you go to the obgyn when pregnant. They're not running a pregnancy test. They're checking other stuff, usually including a drug test. If you were transferred from an RE your doctor already knew you were pregnant. The question at hand here is whether it is normal to see your obgyn simply to confirm a positive hpt which, if you are not high risk and are already a patient at that office, is not typically done. Do some doctors do it? Sure. But that is not the norm.

Interesting. Mine also wanted to confirm pregnancy... I guess some do some don't.

Mine had me come in to "confirm the pregnancy" as well. Very annoying and very much a waste of time, but it's the way they do things at that practice. They did the same thing when I was pregnant with DD 2 years ago though, so I knew what to expect.

I don't know anyone whose OB/GYN doesn't require them to pee in a cup for a pregnancy test in office. Yes, you provide a sample every visit, but the first visit with doctors around here (Pittsburgh area) always includes a pregnancy confirmation... Blood testing seems rare (and only when necessary), but an in-house urine test is totally "the norm" around here. The second appointment becomes the first OB appointment.

My Drs office doesn't do a urine or blood pregnancy test. At your 1st appt he does an u/s to confirm.
