Bargain Baby Buys!

edited August 2015 in February 2016 Moms
Hi ladies! I am 13w+5d and have no clue what the gender is. Im planning to have an u/s done in about 2 weeks but until then I have stuck to buying non-gender specific clothing, basics baby items, etc. Now I am all for a good bargain so DH and I went into the local Goodwill today and racked up on a slew of unisex baby clothes (mostly onesies, sweaters and a "splurge" dress) that were all on sale for 99 cent! I def. intend on going back once we know the gender and rack up on outfits that were prices well below $3! I also plan to search for deals at TJ Maxx, Burlington, Target, etc. after I sift through the Goodwill batch. Where have you ladies been finding good deals or plan to shop?

  • I also look on Kidizen for well priced things. First time round I purchased SO much Gap stuff that LO never wore 1/2 of. This time round I'm buying some nice things new for family pictures or trips to see people but looking for great condition used stuff for round the house and daycare.
It's actually making me kinda annoyed at myself the amount of money I wasted first time round as I go through all his clothes to make room for baby girl!

  • Awesome! I will have to check that out. Can I find it through a simple Google search? Thats a good idea you have. I plan to either sew or buy (if im not feeling up to sewing) a couple new things for special trips and pictures as well. I also plan to box away and save whatever is presentable after LO outgrows it and save it for any future LO thats the same gender. I wanted alot of plain colored clothes but im finding that nearly impossible lol everything is princess/disney or sports/jock.

  • Consignment sales and garage sales. The city and county have a couple consignment sales about twice a year (there is one coming up in September). Garage sales also have clothes for super cheap like 10 cents to $1 for name brand items. I always stock up on larger size shoes and next season clothing and for the consignments bring a checklist of what I'm looking for (play kitchen, Halloween outfit, coats, etc).
  • @FriendlySoutherner check out primary.com
I too hate all the character and sayings on clothing and my friend pointed it out to me!
  • We found out the sex on Wednesday. There is a second hand store (just a local one) by our house and I was able to find a onesie, a bathing suit, a little hat, a dress, and a pair of shorts for $12. I was pretty excited, and I plan on going there every few weeks or so!

  • Consignment sales and Facebook sale pages are really the way to go. Our goodwills and those types of stores are kind of expensive- like $3 for a onesie instead of what you got them for. Also garage sales. After I find out what we are having I will hopefully go to a couple community sales this fall and find lots of clothes for .25-$1. Unless it's a boy, then I need practically nothing except maybe a few seasonal outfits.
  • Theres an awesome consignment store near me called kid 2 kid. There are awesome deals, and consignment sales as well as Facebook. I went to buy buy baby yesterday and saved 272 dollars on our travel system so that was pretty awesome!
  • I just got the Target add today and they have their brand diapers (up&up) on sale. The giant box for $28.99 (which I think is the normal price) but if you buy two you get a $20 gift card which I think is an awesome deal!! I don't love their diapers but for that price I couldn't pass it up. They also have pampers and huggies if you buy two boxes you get a $10 gift card which isn't bad either.

Is this everywhere? And was it only for today? I might have to get in on this.

  • @bpsproule I think so! I don't think it's just for today either. It was in their ad that just came out today so I'd assume it would be good for at least a week. You can buy them online and still get the gift cards too and if you have/use your red card you get an extra 5% off plus free shipping. We just went yesterday and bought the Pampers to get the $10 and then saw this today, so I'm going to get them online so I don't have to leave the house :P

  • They frequently have that diaper sealant target. I've seen the gift card deal for as high as $20. Signing up for Amazon mom with subscribe and save can score you diapers as well. I wouldn't recommend sticking up in too many because some brands work better than others for your baby. For example we loved pampers swaddled for DS in size newborn and one. But they leaked on him in size two so we switched to huggies which worked great.

You can score some great deals at mom to mom sales. And I shop the clearance racks to buy ahead for the next season. Can find some Amazon deals at target, kohls and the children's place, especially when they have stackable coupons on top of thier clearance prices.

  • They have wonderful deals on Zulily!

Also look for these apps on your phone (totspot, & offerup)
  • There is a consignment shop in my area called "Once Upon A Child" I found a barely used graco pack n play with napper for $30! Also my neighbors baby is getting to big for things. Recently she sold me a rock n play with a ceiling projector for $10! Lastly I walk around walmart constantly and find clearence deals. I found a $100 baby monitor that alerts you if the baby hasnt breathed or moved in 20seconds for only $30! Deals Deals Deals
  • If you have Facebook - I would join any local for sale groups, this is where I will be looking for a used swing (almost always in like new condition) possibly a crib, if all parts are accounted for and there have been no recalls, of course lots of clothing. I got a 3 set of 4 oz brand new bottles off a site for $10.

Zulily is also a good site, check out babycheapskate.com - she will tell you where to find cheapest diapers, wipes, and anything baby/child related on sale! I also use coupons + stack with Cartwheel for Target since occasionally they will have good deals on maternity/baby items. Not sure if you've heard about ebates.com but you can use this site when making purchases online to get cash back - its not a ton of $$ back but anything is better than nothing! Craigslist is another good place to check for gently used baby items.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend buying second hand would be a car seat.

  • Also - we have Amazon Mom so not sure if you're interested in something like for diapers/wipes, but you pay $99/year and includes 2 day shipping, 20% off diapers + wipes and an additional 15% anything else you choose to subscribe/save to, includes amazon prime video, music.

We use Luvs during the day and Pampers Baby Dry at night - the big box for Luvs comes out to $24/mo. and Pampers is $36.78/mo and these generally last a whole month.
