Babies on the Brain

So my husband..

just started bringing up that he wants 2 more kids. My heart is swooning hard over this guy. Love me a family man. The Mr. has the fever too, but we know we need to wait to start trying. The thought/want of 3 healthy babes is strong.

How big or small would y'all like your family to be?

Before having our son, I was all about 4. At the end of my pregnancy I swore I was "one and done." So now, 3.5 years later, I say 3, hah!

We have not had any children yet, but DH and I are pretty keen on the idea of "one and done."

We will see how things play out, but from a finance, lifestyle and career stand point, one child seems about right for us. Not everyone would agree with our approach, but they don't need to because it will be our family, our choice.

  • Any time we've talked numbers we've always said 2...we both have twins in our families so maybe we'd have one pregnancy and be done (not banking on this haha but we always joke about it).

    :P
  • @bmo88 it sounds like y'all know what you want as a couple and you're right, it is your choice.

  • I always wanted 2 and my husband said 3. I said we'll see how it goes after the first. I have 2 boys now but I'm thinking of a 3rd now. Wanna try for a girl. Hubby is back tracking on the 3rd now, hoping he'll come around soon.

  • We have both always wanted a big family so we have said in the past that we want as many as we can financially afford. Somewhere in the 3-5 range would be ideal for me...we'll see once I actually have our first.

  • My hubby used to want four, I was almost convinced but said two. Now after having one we're both set on two. Financially it makes more sense and my husband doesn't want to get much older while having little babies (if our TTC plan works out he'll be 34-35 when we have our second). I definitely get the draw of a big family though and I'm a little sad that the next will (probably) be our last.
  • We were one and done for 2 years now, but he's so fun that we are thinking of maybe 1 more:)

  • We don't have kids yet but I think we've settled between 2-3.  Originally I wanted 4, and my husband wanted only 2.  I can't stand the thought of an only child and I hated having a small family growing up so I know we'll aim to have at least 2.  Depending on how that goes, we may consider a 3rd.

  • We are potentially OAD but open to changing our minds and going for two. We both loved being onlies, but the downside for an only child of ours is that she/he wouldn't even have cousins :-( If it weren't for that I would definitely think one was the best fit for us.
  • One and done.  Maybe, just MAYBE we'd want one more, but that's a stretch and would be several years after the first one.
  • We already have a 19 month old and always planned to have a 2nd so they'd be around 2.5 years apart. If all goes as planned, we'll be done after this one. I did go through a period of time where I thought we'd be OAD but we're both getting baby fever :P.

  • I really want 3 and DH only wants two. There's a slight chance of twins in my family so maybe on our second pregnancy I'll get my three!
  • I really would like at least two. After that, we'll see. Of course, I would be perfectly happy with one.

  • We both discussed and want 2. I brought up the "What if we have 2, then suddenly I get baby fever for another baby when our babies aren't babies anymore?" He's like, "Sorry, I'm gonna be snipped at 2. It's not happening." The only way we'd end up with 3 is if the second pregnancy is twins. Haha.

... so 2 it is! We'll see what happens after the first one, though. I may be a "one and done." :P Although, I grew up as an only child (all my half siblings from my dad's first marriage were way older than me) and I always wanted a sibling. So I could definitely see making sure my kid has a sibling... so I think we're gonna be good with 2. It's pretty much the perfect number, I think.

    Whew. Bless your heart.

Hey, though. If you've got the funds, resources and desire to make that happen... you go on with your big family. All the power! You go girl. :)

I'll stick with my two. ... But lemme pop my first one out first. LOL.

  • We don't have a number. Probably 2. Not just one. But going to take it one at a time after that... I have some cousins- their family has 7 kids. They are the happiest, funniest, most awesome family I've ever met.

I have 11 siblings, DH has 1 sister.  So I'm more comfortable with the idea of a large family. I say 5, he says maybe 4.  Maybe we'll try for #4 and have twins haha problem solved!  I guess we should have #1 first before  we can talk about 4-5.

  • I love reading all of these. We have talked a lot since I started this and it sounds like 3 will be what we push for. AHHH!
  • I think we will have 2.  We both think *maybe* 3.  But we are already in our early 30s and have none, and don't really want to spend the next 9 years having kids.  So I think if we get pregnant with #1 and #2 right away, depending upon how things go, we will consider #3.  If we spend a lot of time TTC and/or things are just too crazy with 2, then we'll stop.

I'm super jealous of you @jrecine.  I think that 4 kids would be great.  But it probably will never happen for us unless we end up with multiples.
  • Hey multiples are always a possibility and never say never! My mom got pregnant with my youngest sister at 40! @penelope4612
  • When we got married seven years ago I said two and he said four. The deal was I could have the no more baby surgery after two but he would after four. Now in the present I'm 30 and he is 32. We are just now TTC#1 and he says yea not enough time to have 4 before he is 'old'. DC is just to expensive to have a big family.
  • Aww.. how fun!! We want two more. That will total 4 for us!
  • My fiancé already has an 8 year old and a 4 year old. We would like to have 2 children, but for now we are planning on just one and seeing how things go and also how things are financially after. Things may always change. I know I will have some different thoughts after the first one is born. :)
