Jogging stroller for walking?

I registered for the BOB revolution. Flex and now that my MIL is offering to get it for us I'm second-guessing. I don't plan to jog with it--I just go on long walks around a neighborhood with a lot of bumpy sidewalks and curbs. Is the BOB too big--like overkill? The other feature that initially attracted me was the adjustable handlebar -- I'm 5'6" and my hubby is 6'4". Input greatly appreciated!

Re: Jogging stroller for walking?

  • We have a bob and hardly ever use it for jogging. It's our everyday stroller. It is nice for walking but it is big and heavy.

  • Thanks for the response, @MoRay05. So would you buy it again? Are you overall glad you did?
  • We had a regular stroller to start with for DS and it worked ok on bumpy sidewalks, but not great. We did get a jogging stroller and it worked much better. Also if you are planning to use the stroller on grass or dirt path, the jogging stroller is much easier. DH took DS to the local fair today in the jogging stroller.
I would not say a jogging stroller is a must have, but it is nice and more versatile then a regular stroller. If you are second guessing the BOB maybe take another trip to babies r us or buy buy baby and try our a few of the other strollers again.

  • My BFF has the City Mini and really loves it for everyday walks. It's not specifically a jogging stroller, but it has three wheels and does well with everyday terrain (bumpy sidewalks, etc). And it folds with one hand, which is awesome. She does have a lighter stroller that they travel with as well now that her LO is almost 2. I got the same one, because I know we'll be using it a ton for dog walking.

My DH really likes it. I use it more and I'm petite so it's hard (especially pregnant) to get it in and out of the car.

If I had to do it all over again I would probably go with something of a lighter weight and with more storage. The basket underneath isn't that big.

My advice would be if you really want the bob to purchase a light weight stroller that is easier to grab and go. I don't mind lifting it if we are going to be using it for an hour or two. But it's not really ideal if you are going to be running a bunch of errands.
  • City mini all terrain. Hands down. If you haven't demo'd it in a store do so asap. You literally fold with 1 hand. It's ingenious and could really be used for light jogging on surface roads or sidewalks.
  • We registered for and received the BOB Revolution. I might do a bit of jogging with it but also plan on using it as our every day stroller on the bumpy sidewalks in our nieghborhood and maybe even for walks in on paths in the woods.

We have the bumbleride indie jogging stroller. I love it and have used it both jogging (I've got a slower pace) and walking. It's light weight and easy to fold! It's also made it two years on beach trips and did great in hard and soft sand. We have a "regular" uppababy vista that is getting more use sitting in the garage :|
  • We bought the Graco fast action jogger as we don't really plan to jog but wanted something durable with rubber tires that we could take on trails, the beach, gravel, etc. It's about $200 less than the BOB and I think it will do the trick.

We also registered for the Graco fast action jogger. Mostly because it was literally the only one in our price range that was tall enough for my husband. I think he may run with it occasionally but we need the jogging stroller for regular walks, too, because our sidewalks are horrendous. We registered for a regular umbrella stroller too for lighter occasions. I know he won't be able to sit in an umbrella stroller right away, but I figure I can just wear our son until he fits in the umbrella stroller if the jogger will be too big.

I'd also like to add that we have a car with a large trunk, so size of stroller was not an issue in terms of how much space it takes up. Make sure your trunk is big enough for a jogger since they take up more room
  • I walk very frequently and with my first I realized quickly that a regular stroller is very annoying when the sidewalks are uneven, so I bought the Bumbleride Indie and absolutely loved it!  My SIL has the BOB but uses mine when she comes to visit...she says she likes how "small" mine is.  I haven't used the BOB, so I don't have experience there, but I do think that the Bumbleride is a little smaller than other jogging strollers and I think it is great quality!  I have probably put 1,000 miles on that thing by now.  I am pregnant with #2 and just ordered a second Indie because I didn't want to do the double stroller thing (I don't think my son will fit in it long enough to justify the $700 price tag, found a single on sale for $400) and I almost always go walking with my mom or husband, so we can each push our own.
  • I am getting a Bob too and from what I hear it's amazing. It's light and steers great-perfect for bumpy sidewalks, etc. It is light and durable, best choice of a stroller in my opinion!
  • Another thought for those who just do walking or hiking on uneven terrain - baby wearing.  I loved it with my first.  It made life so simple.  I'd just strap her in and we'd go for a couple of miles in paved and unpaved areas.  I never had to worry about not having enough room for a stroller in small shops or crowded areas.  The only weird part was where to put her when I had to use the bathroom, but we figured that out too.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • We registered for the Graco FastAction Fold Jogger, and I'll admit I have second-guessed it a few times because of the size. I think it will be worth it overall, though, because I do plan on jogging again next spring. I can always baby-wear when I'm running to the store & don't want to bring along a bigger stroller, as @VexedMommy suggested.

  • I spent a lot of time pushing strollers around the store and doing research, I finally settled on the BOB Revolution because of it's lightweight frame and versatility, it also helped that you can get the carseat for free right now if you buy the stroller. I plan on using it for jogging eventually, but I've heard from multiple people that it's the best stroller even if you're just using it to do a lot of walking. I'm with @vexedmommy though regarding baby wearing as well.
  • Get it. You won't regret it!

  • I'm very happy with my Bob, but I use it for jogging mostly. Our sidewalks are terrible, and the cheap graco travel system actually jarred him awake when he was little even just with walking, which was a nonissue with the bob. I'm currently considering getting a less expensive jogging stroller (like baby trend or Schwinn) now that I need a double because I don't see jogging as much with two, but I would like the smoother ride for rough roads. If I had someone offering to buy me a Bob, I'd do it. But the Bob double is like $650 without any attachments :(
