Serious pelvic pain

okay, so I haven't called my doc yet because I have an appointment next week and I really want to try to stick it out, but this is killing me! I have the worst pain in what feels like my vagina but I know it's the pelvic arch. Everytime I try to get up, move in bed, walk the wrong way, put pants on, it seriously feels like I'm ripping my pelvic bone in apart. I've tried Tylenol for the pain and that's done nothing, it just seems to be getting worse!!

Help mommies!

Re: Serious pelvic pain

  • Yep, got it! Mine is SDP (symphysis pubis dysfunction), and that is certainly what it sounds like by your description. I've tried the stretches, cutting out exercise, pillows, no pillows, support bands, and nothing has worked. I start physical therapy Monday. I would call your doc and see if it's something they want you to wait to be seen on, esp depending on how far along you are. I couldn't wait, and am glad I didn't bc it would've pushed pt back even further.

  • Pelvic girdle pain maybe?  Have you looked that up to see if your symptoms match?

  • I would look into PT or a prenatal chiropractor. I'm going to see a chiro next week for my hip issue (feels like it's pushing out of joint!)
  • I had the same thing but Tylenol did help. If you are getting no relief at all from Tylenol I might try to be seen by your doctor sooner rather than later. Drinking lots of water and scheduled rest every day can help. My OB said I could still exercise to my level of comfort. If it's any consolation mine got better after a couple weeks, just occasional flare ups now at 26.4 weeks.

This is what I'm thinking it is!
  • I also have spd and it started that way. They were hoping pt could help but I'm now on crutches and a wheelchair for longer distances. I think it's extreme but definitely bring it up to your dr and take it easy until then!!

  • Don't have any experience with this just wanted to wish all you mommas relief quickly!!
  • I have this pain, but doctor said it was normal. I was having others problems she was focusing on more when I told her.
  • I been send to physical therapy.. It helps a bit. Some more than others.. Ask OB if this can be a positively.. Good luck
  • I was told last week that I also have Pubis Symphysis Disfunction. It is the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced. It started in week 16 and has continually gotten worse daily. I'm now in week 28. Dr said if I can't get relief from at home exercises he wants me to go to physical therapy. I am really trying to work until the baby is born, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to hang in there.
  • I am having pelvic pain as well. The first day it happened it seriously felt like someone had kicked me over and over again in the crotch. It started my very first day of my new teaching position at my new school. I thought it was just stress and that I over did it, but even after rest and water it persisted. I went to the doctor because I was in fear that I was in preterm labor or that I was dilating. They did an ultrasound. Everything was fine, no dilating, cervix long and closed, fluid was great, and baby measured great. As for the pain, they told me baby is head down and I am carrying her low. I was also tested for a possible bladder infection as well as a vaginal infection and both came back negative.

The pain hasn't gone away but has subsided. I do take Tylenol and it helps some. The pain is going on a week and a few days. I know it's going to get much worse as she grows and I expand to accommodate her.

I've never heard of PSD and the doc didn't mention it. I'm wondering if that's what's going on as well with me!

Thank you for the post! I hope you feel better! If I were you, I would call my doctor and be seen. The ultrasound really gave me peace of mind. The doctor, tech, and I could clearly see everything was okay and that it wasn't preterm labor or dilation.

    Good luck!
  • Just wanted to let you all know I may have found relief from the pelvic pain. I've been trying exercises, slowing down and nothing is helping. Like others I feel like my pelvis is ripping from my legs.

Anyway, last night I had an Epsom salt bath. I made it a little too cool as I was worried about getting overheated, but I added about a cup of Epsom salts. I didn't really feel a difference afterwards, but when I woke up this morning I felt amazing! I don't know how long the relief will last, but I would recommend trying it. I am going to ask my midwife tomorrow how often I can take them. I haven't felt this way in over a month, it's fantastic!

    Thought I would share :)
  • I second the Epsom salt bath! I bought some the other day because it was recommended to me by another recently pregnant gal who experienced the same thing.

Unfortunately, if you have the pelvic pain, you'll most likely have it the rest of the pregnancy. I've learned to just accept it, be cautious of my movements, take breaks as needed, get as much rest as possible, and do some hip opening and strengthening stretches before getting into bed, as soon as I get up, and throughout the day as needed.

I know I don't have it as bad as some of you do, but I understand the pain, discomfort, and frustration that comes with it. I've definitely had my share of feeling crippled and broken! Hang in there ladies! We are almost done. :)
  • Reviving this thread as I'm going on almost a month now of serious pelvic pain/soreness. I mentioned it to my midwife ~3wks ago & she didn't seem phased. It's so sore tho and hurts the most when I first stand up from sitting or when I try to roll over in bed from one side to the other. I'm going to try yoga & stretches esp hip opening ones. The soreness is in my uppermost thighs through the whole pelvic region. At what point should I alert my midwife again & see if I should do physical therapy? I was going to the chiropractor early in the pregnancy & keep meaning to go back esp now. Definitely going to go next week.
  • I have that pelvic girdle pain like sciatica, am hobbling around. Oh lordy. Am trying everything best not lie on back for anytime, it flares it so bad. Will post if i find relief.

I tried physical therapy and my pain definitely was movement related more than a misalignment, so I'm stuck on team "I'll just have to wait until after the baby comes". I tried support bands, stretches, exercises, nothing helped, but then again nothing made it worse. Soaking in Epsom salt baths is nice too, but didn't provide any long term relief. I've found that if I'm on my side in bed, and sit up (without trying to roll over first), keeping the area where my legs meet my pelvis as still as possible, then turn my body once I'm completely upright, turning over is less painful. If I'm getting out of bed, I sit up the same way, then just give myself a few minutes to sit, then stand for a few, and walk slowly, it's not as bad.
  • I am reviving this post too. Is your ladies pain just on one side? I moved my craft table out to the garage (it was my parents old kitchen table that they got at a garage sale when they got married) I didn't quite realize how heavy it was until the damage was done. Where my leg meets my pubic area is where I am sore l, only on my right and usually only bothers me when I am active. Wondering if this is similar to the pain any of you are experiencing.
I also have sciatic pain but that is on the left and probably left over from playing roller derby.
  • @lyankowi Mine is a bit worse on one side, but it's pretty central.

I've been doing this prenatal yoga video over the last video (someone on this board rec'd it and I LOVE IT!) and I really think it has helped a lot:

  • I haven't posted on here yet- I usually just read them. I had this 2 weeks ago. The pain was so bad I could barely walk. Stairs were unmanageable and getting up from sitting and rolling over like you said was horrible. It felt like my pelvic area was falling apart! I went for some physio and she gave me 3 exercises to do 3 times a day- or when the pain gets worse. Within 3 days I was so much better and I barely have any pain now. Only on days when im very active and on my feet all day. I thought I was going to be down for the count but physio has saved me!! I hope it could do the same for you. Good luck!
  • SPD - go see a chiropractor. I have almost zero pain after being fixed and mine was awful too.

Mine started like 3 weeks ago and I self diagnosed SPD. My midwife also kind of blew past it during the last appointment (2 weeks ago ). Primarily mine is on the right side and it feels like an aching burning feeling. My husband has an old back support belt which he has been strapping to my pelvis (lots of velcro) under the belly with much success. Its kind of uncomfortable so I don't usually have it on for more than 20 minutes or so but it does really help. I also found that some chair or seats are better for me than others. My office chair is the best but the couch and my living room chairs are unfortunately not good for me. Turning and getting up to pee at night are the absolute worst. I have not been able to find a solution for it and its wearing on me. I am going to look into a chiropractor and also physical therapy. If it stays like this until the end I could manage it but more than likely itll get worse right?...sigh
  • Hi ladies. So I ended up going to the doctor and it was SPD. They gave my the support belt, but it only helped so much. I can't go see a chiropractor because they tend to freak me out a bit. So lately I've just been dealing with the pain, though I will definitely try the Epsom salt bath. Most recently I've been more worried about my swollen feet and cankles. But, I've kind of learned to tune the SPD out, except when I get up from sitting for a while, I feel like someone donkey kicked me there. Pushing through this pain in only just the beginning.
  • After almost 8 months of a relatively symptom free pregnancy, now I have crotch pain! By comparing symptoms it sounds like PGP or SPD (Isn't it the same thing?) . I see my doctor tomorrow and will mention it to him but it sounds like there isn't much to be done. Good thing it's not as excruciating as what some of you ladies seem to be tolerating. :-<
