July 2015 Moms

M.O.T.N.

So, it's 342am in Kansas. LO woke up around 245am, so I changed and fed her. Because of reflux, I have to keep her upright for at least 30 min, otherwise I'll have a spit up mess on my hands. She's already asleep on my shoulder, which is adorable.
Also, I'm a little peeved at my hubby. He got off work at 3am - it's his Friday - and tells me he's not feeling well and probably won't be able to help me with LO tomorrow. He doesn't want to get her sick... I get that. But, what happens when I'm sick? Can I just not be a mom when I don't feel well?
Anyway, what's everyone else doing?

Re: M.O.T.N.

  • 5am in NY and trying to figure out why my LO will go 4 hours between feelings during the day but only 3 at night...he knows the difference between night and day...now let mama sleep, baby!
  • Loading the player...
  • 5:25 AM in Atlanta and I'm getting clawed by my little as she nurses...I really need to clip her fingernails, but I'm scared. DH is sleeping peacefully. :-w I wish men could breastfeed!

  • Almost 6 am in PA. My 5 week old Son slept from 9:45-5:30. He's a sleeping champ, but he had the messiest diaper yet and continued to poop and pee while I was trying to change him. Thankfully DH got up to help change him too. It was definitely a 2 person job
  • @NSAnderson0313 I use an emery board to file my LO's nails. It's not scary, he lets me do it while he's nursing & that's what I was told to do in the hospital instead of clipping
  • It's 4am here in Denver just feeding my boy. Still waking him up every three hours (he hasn't quite made birth weight) ...usually I have to wake him, which I hate, but this time he woke himself up kinda fussy with a wet & dirty diaper. Got him changed now feeding the lil guy. I have to keep a wet washcloth nearby while I feed to periodically swipe across his face & tummy to keep him awake. My DH almost always wakes up if he hears fussing or crying and asks how he can help :x There's not always a lot he can do, maybe hold him for a few while I pee, help with changing, fill up my water, get the supplemental (breast milk) bottle ready...but I love that he acknowledges my efforts, our needs, & the occasional MOTN struggle!
  • @ecloho I will buy one this afternoon and pray that it works! Thanks for that!
  • It's 5 am in Ca. Baby slept off and on most of from about midnight till now. That's progress! His grunting however kept mama awake. I was tempted to sleep in another room but I'm not ready for that yet.
  • Almost 6am in Oregon! We are waking baby every 4 hours to eat still, and of course she is still asleep when the alarm goes off!

When did you guy start letting baby sleep? She hit birth weight 11 days ago at a nurse weight check but the nurse told us for the first three months baby shouldn't go more then 4 hours between feedings, so we continue to set the alarm!
  • My Peditrician was amazed that DS sleeps so long so I asked if I should wake him up and she said no way and to let him sleep as long as he wants. She said he'll probably eat more often during the day to make up for not eating at night, which is exactly what he does and that explained why he always wants to eat.

DS is 5 weeks and is above his birth weight now
  • My pediatrician also had the same recommendation. If LO is sleeping an extended period at night let her, but do expect her to want to eat more during the day.

Exactly what my pediatrician told us after we hit birth weight. We were waking every 2 hours 24/7 for two days. Then went to 4 hours at night but still 2 during the day. Once he hit slightly above birth weight he said no more alarms-just feed on demand. He still typically only goes 4-5 hours at night before he wakes up hungry. He definitely makes up for it during the day eating wvery 1.5-2 hours. Sometimes longer if he naps but the last few days he's not been doing that. I think we're having a growth spurt because he's been extremely cranky too. This too shall pass.
  • I was awake at 4 this morning...my baby usually sleeps 8 hours, but his super loud, hard farting woke him up....I know it's not funny because it hurts his tummy, but I couldn't help but laugh at just how loud it was!!
