Bicornuate Uterus

So, I wanted to see if anyone else is in the same boat??

I have an abnormal uterus.  A bicornuate uterus is actually heart shaped instead of the normal pear shaped uterus.  And each area is called a horn.  It's said that fewer than one woman in 200 have a bicornuate uterus.

So, having this abnormality makes me nervous!!  I went for my first u/s and they said I ovulated on my left side(left horn) but my little embryo moved to the right side(right horn).  LOL  And my corpus luteum(that helps with progesterone levels) stayed in the left horn.  It's just so confusing!!  My right horn is also larger than my left horn so I wonder if that's why the baby moved to the other side??

Is anyone in the same situation or have already had a child with this type uterus?

Re: Bicornuate Uterus

  • My friend has a uterus like this she has two boys and is pregnant with her third. The only issue she had was her first didn't have enough room to grown towards the end so they induced her early but he was healthy. I don't think it's much of an issue and they monitor a little more just incase the baby's growth stops since one side may not stretch as much.

I have this type of uterus too. Baby implanted in right pouch :) I'm not worrying about it since not much can be done to change it now. Fingers crossed things work out wonderfully for you, me and our babes.
  • I had one really paranoid doctor tell me I have a bicornate uterus. But she was also really stressing me out about an ectopic pregnancy and ovarian cysts and seemed a little like she was listing off any possible complications.
I really freaked myself out by googling bicornate uterus. I'll hopefully know by next week (first apt with a different doc) if I really have one.
There are several threads in the "high risk" board (im not really sure if a bicornate classifies as a HR pregnancy), and there is a Facebook support group I have heard about (haven't actually been on it yet).

I'd never even heard of a bicornate uterus before we got pregnant!
  • I had one and had no issues carrying my first to term. My doctor said it can mean a higher chance of a c-section (but doesn't automatically mean you will need one) because sometimes the baby doesn't have enough room to get into position. Hope that helps put your mind at ease.
  • I also have this. I carried my first on the right side and delivered a perfectly healthy happy little girl naturally. I am now expecting #2 and this one is on the left side. 10 weeks and everything still looks good.
  • I have one & my bubs is on the right side also :)
  • I have unicornuate uterus.. That means only half of it developed so I am at risk for "running out of room" and going into labor early. It's scary but I'm staying positive!
  • Thank you for all the good vibes!  It's also nice to know there are a few others with me in this, lol.  The internet is a scary place sometimes...

Love to hear the responses!  Thanks ladies!
