Grunts

My LO just started grunting and squeaking in the middle of the night. It seems like he's uncomfortable but I look over and he's sleeping! He'll make this sound every 5 minutes and I'm not getting any sleep because of it. I thought maybe he was gassy? It's driving my crazy! Anyone else?

My LO is a little grunty/squeaky occasionally when he sleeps, but definitely not every 5 minutes.

  • My LO does this periodically. I just assume gas that will works its way out while she's sleeping or the next time I burp her. Either way, if she's not crazy fussy I let her continue to sleep.
  • My baby does this too. It's enough to make me think he's waking up but he stays asleep. It keeps me awake!

My LO grunts, squeals, and moves around like crazy in her sleep. It definitely wakes me up. It's probably twice an hour. She does sleep for about four or five hour stretches, buy she's such an active sleeper that it keeps me awake!
  • It's gas ! Try pumping the legs or the Windi :-)
  • My girl is a grunter and a squeaker too. So much that I call her piglet lol

So... I'm reading this post and little Owen is lying on the bed next to me napping...and he is grunting a little and wiggling. The I hear him pass the breeze. I think it is safe to say, with him, it was just gas. He does pass the breeze a lot so it doesn't surprise me at all!
  • My boy seems to do this most mornings, and you're right - it's every few minutes but he falls asleep in between! He sounds uncomfortable to me (agree it must be gas) so I always take it as a sign we need to get up and start the day. Luckily it only happens around 6:30 or 7am for us, not in the middle of the night....

  • When we first brought our LO home I would get up every time he even grunted thinking it was more than it was. Now it still wakes me up but I don't get up to go to him until I hear an actual cry on the monitor. So yeah very common.
  • Our ped told us those sounds were the result of his respiratory system not being fully mature and he'd grow out of it.

  • We've nicknamed our little one warthog because of all the noises he makes! He definitely wakes me up with all the noise but surprisingly he seems to sleep through it.
  • I call our daughter Miss Piggie because of her grunts while she's eating - I've never heard a louder baby! She recently started grunting at night too. Same as other PP's I wake up but don't get up unless I hear a cry.
