Nighttime sucks

my baby is up all night long, for 8-10 hour stretches with maybe a couple of 20-30 minute naps in between. I feel so lonley and isolated at night, not to mention exhausted. Hubby sleeps the night shift and I usually wake him up around 7am to switch places with me so I can sleep. Hubby goes back to work in two weeks and then I'll never get any sleep. I'm feeling really discouraged trying to get the baby to stay awake during the day and sleep at night. It's hard, just a vent.

Re: Nighttime sucks

  • Your not alone! Im going through the same with my son. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. My husband works so im the one waking up all the time or staying awake. Hang in there and remember ur not alone

  • Babies are so hard. First off, for the next two weeks can you divide up the night shift so you're not staying up the entire night? Even if you get to sleep during the day it's mentally exhausting to be up all night. Second, try not to stress about when your husband goes back to work, babies and their habits can change so much in 2 weeks.

You're not alone and this stage will pass. It does get better, this is my third baby and sometimes you just have to ride it out.
  • Do you have a support system in place? Maybe someone who can come help out a few hours here and there when he does go back? Get some sleep while you came when the baby sleeps. I work the night shift so when I go back to work, I'll be in the same boat. I do have ppl that will come baby sit some once the baby gets to moving around and I have a 9 yr old that will probably be helping out. But these stages are the hardest. Just take a deep breathe. They usually don't last.
  • My LO was like that. It seems that her pattern changes every couple of days. Tonight she actually slept 4 hours! However last week I had maybe four hours of sleep the whole night shift in 30 minute slots.
