OT: Toys Playing By Themselves

I've heard some parents complaining about toys randomly going off when no one is playing with/near them and often it turns out to be dying batteries. Well DS has a couple of toys that have done this in our new house despite new batteries. I've about had it tonight as the latest one going off on its own is his walker and it is beyond words creepy. It just keeps saying "come and play with us". Ummmm... No thanks. I consider myself a pretty rational person, but this is some Chucky style shit. I mean you really have to turn the dial forcefully to get that part of the walker to play. WTF - anyone else have this happen?

DD2 walker will go off if you go near it. But I just turn it off.

But this reminds me of when I was 19. Me and mom were moving and I went into the attic handing stuff down. Well I come across this doll (I was already not a doll person) well it just starts talking. It says is everybody sleeping I want to tell you a secret. I threw that doll down the stairs as quick as possible and told my mom that the doll wasn't moving with us. I had never seen that doll before then either. It was baby secret had a pull string I guess got pulled when I picked her up.
  • We have encountered quite a few possessed children's toys over the last 5 years. Most of them we get rid of right when we notice it.

There are a couple of puzzles that we ended up keeping around because my kids liked them so much. They are Melissa and Doug puzzles that make the sound of whatever the puzzle piece is. The catch is that they are photo sensitive. We lost a piece to one of them and everytime we would turn out the light at night it would go off. And every so often if we left the blinds open in our front room, headlights from a passing car would set it off. That damn puzzle scared me so many times!
  • No talking toys for my kids. Sorry son, mommy thinks they are freaky!!
  • Eww that's super creepy... No possessed toys but When we first moved into our new home, a few times I noticed what I thought was a shadow moving. I assumed it was just my imagination until DS told me one night that he woke up and seen a shadow walk past his room. We had a priest come and bless our house soon after and haven't had anything since....
    Knock on wood...
  • Yikes! That gives me the heebeegeebees! If your into that kind of stuff you should have your home blessed. I grew up in a haunted home and it was terrifying going through that as a child! I didn't want my son to have to experience anything like that at the ripeful age of 5. That's why we did as we did. Also he went through a stage of sleeping with us and I always felt like I couldn't turn him away bc he was actully afraid to sleep alone in his bedroom. Then it became an issue of NEVER wanting to sleep in his bed.
    Good luck to you woman!
  • Lol no shit
  • My mom bought my niece a light up walker thing with music. It lit up and made sounds if you pushed it around or pushed any of the buttons. We would have it turned off and facing a corner and the thing would randomly start playing music. I can still hear the tune in my head and it drives me nuts. My dad got it out for my youngest niece to play with and the lights and music would still randomly go off, even with the switched turned to OFF. It's been the running joke that he will have to get it back out when our LO arrives. It's so freaky, we can all sing the stupid tune, yet somehow it stays at their house to be used over and over again!
  • When I think of furbys, I instantly hear in my head.. "Yummmmmmm" omg those things were assholes. hahaha
  • LOL, does anyone remember Furbies?

Those things used to wake me up in the middle of the night with their talking. My mom hated them! Lmao :))

Furbies have made a come back lately.  My daughter has one.  It's creepy.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • This has been happening to us since DD was born! She has multiple toys that have randomly gone off on their own, the creepiest being a stuffed teddy bear with my father in laws voice recorded on it. Like that's not creepy enough in itself lol but most recently it's her kitchen set stove top. There is a button on the fake burner that has to have the pot or pan set on it a certain way for it to be pressed. Goes off without anything on it & I've noticed it's usually when I'm talking to DD about her brother & becoming a big sister. I attribute it to family members who have passed letting us know they are with us
  • Oops it posted before finished....we are temporarily living in an apartment & the kitchen has done this here & at our old home. I will be curious to see if it happens at our new home when we move this month!
  • SS's potty training chair played a little fanfare when he used it, and it started going off randomly after a while...

My mom got me one as a joke because I had one growing up that I threw out of my window because it scared the crap out of me one morning when I got up.. I woke up and it was right next to me and I put it on my dresser before I went to bed.. That's where I always put it.. No more furbies for me.. EVER!!! She said "I got it for the baby" As she laughed and snickered handing it to me.....ummmm no he will not have a creepy furbie toy.. OT but I owned a Guinea pig for 4 years named furbie and she was the sweetest thing ever!

My friend left hers at my house once as a kid, and in the middle of the night it said, "Furby's hungry!" NOPE!!!

Also my brother had a Tommy Pickles doll (from Rugrats), and he slept with it in his bed. One night he rolled over onto it, when the batteries were almost dead, and it said in a low voice, "Come play with me!" Hahaha so creepy
Baby number 1 on the way!

  • I remember when i was younger and we found this little teddy that talks and my little brother brought it home and the first night it was talking by itself saying "do you wanna play" uhm nope gtfo right now it was gone so fast lol ive had some unexplained experiences myself using ouji boards and stuff now that im going to be a mother i wont go near crap like that.
  • Nobody buy the stupid dinosaur from Walmart. It's green and you feed it these coins that have pictures of food on them. It seriously doesn't shut up and goes off randomly.

"Can you feed me?! The orange carrot?!" And it's so freaking loud!!!

  • When I lived in Toronto, for a little while I had a basement apartment and the girl upstairs had an 2 year old son. He had a potty that played music when you peed into it, and it started to go off on it's own so she removed the batteries but it kept going off.

Then other strange things started happening, like things disappearing and then reappearing to where they originally were 2 days later, the front door locking or unlocking it's self, and a teddy bear that used to be on top of a dresser that he couldn't reach, she would find it in bed with him each morning. His sippy cup lid unscrewed it's self in front of our eyes and fell onto the table one night. And sometimes you would just get this overwhelming sense of sadness out of nowhere when you were sitting in the lounge, like you wanted to cry.

Then one night shit got really real. I hear an alarm going off in the basement ceiling, so I went upstairs and couldn't hear anything. She had a friend over and we all (with dog and baby) went downstairs to see if it was still going and when we were stood under the ceiling where it was, it just stopped. We went back upstairs.

Her son had a little table with 2 chairs and 2 placemats on it. The chairs were pushed under on each side and the placemats were on top of each other in the middle of the table when we went downstairs. When we came back up, the chairs were now laying on their sides, on top of each other sort of half under the coffee table and the placemats were half on half off each side of the table and the teddy bear was sitting on the couch.

We grabbed the son, the dog, I grabbed my bottle of wine (it was a Saturday night) and we all went and sat in the car on the driveway and called her boyfriend. The lights started to go off and on and I needed the bathroom so I went back in and found the sons pull along toy was now in the middle of the coffee table and one of the dining room chairs was in the middle of the room.

The boyfriend who was into ghosties and stuff came over and went in the house and came out a bit later and told us it was ok to go back in. I lived there for about another month and strange stuff still happened but not like that night.

I'm a very rational, scientific person and there's always a reasonable explanation for everything, but that I can't explain.

  • Remove that thing from your home. That's too freaky.

Lmao - I did that all the way back to London.
  • This reminds me of my furby growing up! None of those toys will make it into our house! Fortunately nothing weird happens at my house but I'm not taking any chances!
  • When we first moved into our house, we thought one of the spare bedrooms was haunted. We keep the doors locked because we have a dog who is smart enough to jump up and unlock doors. One night, one of the rooms had a light coming from under the door. Neither myself nor my husband had gone in there for weeks! We went in and a little lamp was turned on across the room.

Then, one light in our living room would flicker on and off, and everytime I'd go near it it would stop. Walk away, it would flicker again! I changed the bulb and checked the switches and everything. No reason for it. Apparently my neighbor said an old guy died of cancer before we moved in but who knows >:D<
  • Some weird stuff would go in in my parents house. My sister and I were home alone, both in the living room and the dining room light went on. We told our parents and my dad said something must be watching out for us. When I got my own room on the main floor (my parents and sister's rooms were upstairs) I woke up during the night and looked around and saw someone standing in front of the far window. My mom told me I had said the guy was wearing a black and white striped prisoner uniform, come to find the original owner of the house was a German POW during WW II. From then on I would wake up at the same time every night and go upstairs and sleep on the floor in my parents room. One night I woke up because the phone rang and I saw a girl standing at the foot of my parents bed but I wasn't scared that time. My parents decided enough was enough and moved me back upstairs so my sister and I shared a room again. One night I looked toward the door and saw someone standing there. I started calling for my mom and it started walking toward me. I yelled for her again and it went away when she came running in. My dad completely believed me because he had weird things happen to him like that when he was younger too and his dad didn't believe him. He told me the next time something like that happened to tell it to go to the light. So the next time I told it that and it started walking toward me so I told it again and it just floated up. The time after that I told it to go to the light and a bunch just started floating up one by one out of the floor. Gosh, now I feel like I sound absolutely crazy. It's happened to my aunts and uncles on my dad's side too and an uncle or two on my mom's.

More recently, the tv in the kitchen would randomly turn on. It definitely startled all of us when it would happen. Come to find it was only when we would turn the light on when everything else is dark. We think it has something to do with the remote and some signal or something from it.
