FTM ! 39w5d, last doc appointment was last Wednesday and I was fingertip dilated & 50% effaced. Yesterday I had Braxton Hicks all day about 10 minutes apart. Today they've been 5 minutes apart. They aren't causing me terrible pain, but they do take my breath away & are uncomfortable. Everyone says Braxton Hicks should go away with change of position & water - these don't. Is labor starting ?

UPDATE : the contractions went from
Just tightening that was taking my breath away to painful period like cramps that made me stop in my tracks accommodated my terrible back pain. I got about 4 of those in 30 minutes & then they just stopped. :-S So I think it's safe to say baby Mason won't be arriving just yet.

  • Call your doctor. It's hard to say

  • If you are concerned, call your doctor.  At this point, labor could really start at any time.  I will say that last time, I did not realize I was having contractions initially.

  • If you can time them and they are coming regularly and getting stronger then it's worth a call to your doctor. No one here can tell you if you're in labor.
  • No one here can tell you if you are in labor. Usually when active labor happens there is no mistaking it!
  • Okay ladies, wasn't asking literally am I in labor I know you'll aren't medical experts. I guess what I was meaning to say was from prior experience did anyone else's labor start off this way. I guess I should've better worded that.
  • Not sounding snarky, but everyone's labor (if it starts spontaneously) starts similarly. Contractions will start and become closer together. They don't necessarily have to be making you cramped over in pain, they may start off smaller. Regardless, you should call your doctor for advice because they may want to monitor them.

  • If contractions are time able and increasing in frequency and pain then I would go in. As PP's stated, there's no way for us to know though.

  • Last pregnancy, I had 3 days of Braxton hicks which were time-able, consistent, and took my breath away. It never switched to real labor. I went another 2 weeks before anything really started happening again.

I never made it to active labor either, as I was not progressing fast enough, baby's heart rate was dropping on contraction, and therefore they did not assist to induce further.

This pregnancy, 38w3d, I feel like a FTM again since I never made it to active labor, lol!!! Daily Braxton hicks, sometimes time-able sometimes not. Ugh! Hang in there momma... Supposedly you'll know when it's the real deal.

Our babies will be here in no time. Hold in there, good luck to you...
