I forget which brand of suction bowls we had, but DS learned to pull them off the high chair very quickly and when he broke the suction the bowl and food when flying across the room. I would not recommend suction bowls period. We just ended up using the high chair tray or a plain plastic bowl.
We're in the no bowls camp too. Our 1 yo is a terror at mealtimes it's easier if we just use the high chair tray. Kiddo must be a master of mayhem because he can spill from those stupid unspillable gyro bowls too (thanks grandma)!
We love the suction cup bowls! DD has oatmeal for breakfast every morning and those were the key in getting her to feed herself. She can get them unstuck if she tries, but they have definitely helped.
No bowls here either. I have a few that are more for travel (with a lid). Meals at home was always given directly on the high chair tray. Now as a toddler he eats directly at the dinner table and I have one EzPz mat that works well. I think in October they are coming with an infant one that will fit on most highchair tray that I'm excited about.
Also no bowls/plates camp those get thrown. At home just use tray and restaurants I use those table placemats that stick to table and can be thrown out. Much easier.
