Hey April mommies! I just wanted to start a thread about eating paleo :) it can be difficult at times to not fall into temptation and /or come up with new recipes . Feel free to share reading materials you have found helpful !

I have been eating paleo for about seven months now.Prior to that I stuck with it for about a year but I fell off really bad on one of our Vegas trips

Now that I'm pregnant I find it that much more difficult as not much sounds good .

For those who don't know what paleo is here is a link.

Here's to a healthy 9 months :)

Re: Everything paleo!

  • I'm abt 80% paleo with my meals, DH isn't a big fan so I try to keep some things "normal" for him. I'm starting another whole30 on the 23rd with a friend.

My husband tries but he can't give up cheese lol so I'd say he's about 80% paleo as well .

    What's the whole 30?
  • @jonesl12 it's just a stricter form of paleo for 30 days to re-establish better eating habits. Whole30.com has all the info on the program.
  • Lurking from TTGP

@MrsCayEye I love whole30. I did my first one a year ago and have done 2 more since. I am trying to be about 80% with my meals. It is tough though.

  • @m6agua I've done 2 this year, this will be my 3rd round. I love it too. I need it after my vacations this summer... Yikes.
  • I was diagnosed with a rare and scary autoimmune disease (pregnancy related) during my first/last pregnancy. I've been on a serious health journey since trying to cure my immune system. I started gluten free then read many books including The Paleo Cure by Chris Kresser and decided to go full paleo. Since then I probably eat 90% paleo as I eat cheese and yogurt occasionally. I have yet to do my 1st Whole 30 but I've had the book for months. Perhaps now is the time!

Yummy paleo meal today: Zuchinni noodles with carrots, onions, sugar free bacon and avocado!

I'm excited for a [practically paleo] pregnancy and even more anxious to conquer the autoimmune issue!
  • Glad there are other paleo minded mommies on this BMB :)
  • I am about 80% whole30 still. My husband has been 100% since June. I am proud of him. Me on the other hand, I can't give up the yogurt and lattes.

  • My husband and I try to eat Paleo as much as possible. We've been off and on for about 3 years, but I haven't been doing great the past couple weeks. Trying to get back on the wagon this week!
  • I don't eat paleo right now, but this is one of my fave recipes ever that works for both paleo and non paleo. It's one of my stepsons' fave dishes, too! https://paleomg.com/my-meat-sauce-i-put-on-everything/

  • That recipe looks awesome!
  • @jonesl12 that recipe looks delicious and DH will prob love it. Thanks for sharing!
  • I follow whole30recipes and aiplifestyle on IG for meal inspiration, both have been excellent resources.
  • I try really hard to stick close to paleo as possible but I'm mostly low carb as I still eat dairy and some grains. Paleo has caused me to introduce some great foods like lamb. Dinner last night was diced sweet potatoes and Italian sausage crumbs.

  • I try to eat paleo/Whole30 80% of the time. It's so hard on weekends bc my husband likes to eat out a lot. I've found that it's key to have lots of leftovers on hand that I can just nuke for lunch. Otherwise I end up eating the kids' PB&J and that's not helpful!! Also it was my 2 yr olds birthday today and I did eat a cupcake.

  • I was eating mostly paleo and have done 5 whole 30s. But the past few weeks, meat sounds and tastes gross to me. Ack! I guess I'm upping the veggies and try to limit grains and sugars.
  • So glad there are others following paleo. I have been mostly paleo for a few years. I ordered fresh meals (paleo) through my gym to make it a bit easier since I don't feel like cooking right now.
  • @Julesby that's awesome you can order paleo meals from your gym! I'm cooking for my husband and almost 1 year old and I know it's going to get tough. Especially since I'm going back to work (teacher) next week!

You ladies heard of Epic bars? Soooo good! It's a meat snack bar. Comes in lamb, bison, beef, or bacon mixed with fruit. I plan on stocking up for work snacks.
  • I have heard of them but I don't know anybody that had tried them. @soontobehosford . Are they $$?

@jonesl12 at my local natural food store they are $2.99/ea. Kind of spendy for a snack but I invest because I prioritize good quality food. I probably spend wayyyyyyy too much on food every month. Oops.
  • @soontobehosford - We are super lucky that the service exists and that we can afford it for now. We probably won't be able to when the baby arrives. But, I'm working two jobs right now, so I can justify it.

Epic bars are fantastic, as are Steve's paleo products.
  • I've been about 80% paleo for over a year now. This past week, I've been struggling because I've been craving all the junk while the thought of all the good stuff triggers my gag reflex. Sucks! I really wanted pasta and chocolate cake for dinner last night, but my hubby helped me stick to the plan, so instead I made a paleo meat sauce over zucchini "noodles". It satisfied the craving for pasta, but I still wanted cake. I didn't get it though :)

I heart zoodles and spaghetti squash - they definitely help with my pasta cravings!
  • I'm soooooo glad there's a little paleo support group on this board! I'm just beginning to get the nausea and food aversions. I've been gluten free about 6 months and yesterday I wanted bread so bad. I didn't give in. Zoodles and sauce sounds like a good menu choice for this week!!
  • Wow. I wish my gym cooked paleo for us! That would be so awesome. My husband has stepped up since I got pregnant and am SO tired all the time. I do feel bad though because a lot of the time I can't stand the smell of food. Not even because of nausia, it just doesn't sound good.

I woke up today and realized I need to go grocery shopping bad.... So for breakfast I had left over chicken that I wrapped in bacon . It was awesome! All I have right now in my fridge is chicken, bacon, a tiny bit of cauliflower and 1/2 a gallon of water. The struggle is real lol

I used to have 2 protein shakes a day. I really like Beverly UMP but reading the label made me question if it's still ok to have while pregnant . Are any of you drinking protein shakes? If so what brand are you using ?

Trying to get my mind off my ultrasound I have to get tonight. My last pregnancy ended at 6weeks 1 day ( I didn't know it until 8weeks tho) so my last ultrasound before I lost it was at 6 weeks and I got to see the heartbeat then the next day it stopped. I'm 5w6 days today so I'm hoping it goes well later.

    1. Chicken wrapped in bacon = genius.

    2. Protein shakes, yes! I use USANA products.

    3. How did the ultrasound go?

Thanks for asking! The ultrasound went well! I measured where I should be and we saw the heartbeat. It was a bit slow but I was only 5w6d.

I will have to look up that brand :) any particular flavor better than others ?

Last night I fell off my meal plan pretty bad and ate Arby's . I just ate the beef off a sandwich but I'm pretty sure that's not just beef. I was starving on my way home from work at 8pm
