I went to a soiree last night, and as soon as people found out that I was pregnant, (as usual) the comments/opinions started to fly. The favorites seemed to be "OMG! Who's pregnant, you?! and "You're small for 17.5 weeks".
I know that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, and that everyone is different blah, blah however the comments did get to me.
I think that everyone just expects a pregnant woman to look bloated and mumsy and when they don't see that, the easiest thing to say is that "You're small for xyz" - do you agree?
So far I've put on 3.5 kgs, and it's all definitely in my boobies and bumpie. To put it in context: I'm 5'3, petite, a lover of running (I'm a strong believer in exercising through your pregnancy) and I follow a clean eating template, so the weight is going on slowly.
Is anyone in the same position as me? I've got my 18 week mid wife appointment in a couple of days, so will definitely be picking this up with her.
Re: OMG! Who's pregnant, you?!
People say things sometimes just to make conversation. I'm sure they don't mean it like "oh my gosh you're starving yourself and your baby!". Try not to be so sensitive about it what we HEAR isn't usually what is being said.
1. Pregnant, by drawing a lot of attention to my belly with the aid of maternity shirts and/or empire waisted belts. Also touching my belly, a lot. Although it feels and seems dramatic at this point because I practically have to push out my belly to make an impact.
2. Fat, or like I'm concealing a couple months worth of bad eating decisions (the most confusing for me and people). I generally have to "confirm" the suspicion and usually get a response like "OHHHHH".
3. Not pregnant, by wearing baggier clothing that's intentionally big. Oversized boyfriend button downs, shift dresses, etc. Usually when I go this way, which is most often, I get comments similar to yours. "WOW YOU'RE HARDLY SHOWING!!!!" or "It's because your so tall the baby has lots of room" or something alluding to my healthy lifestyle prior to baby.
Either way, pregnancy=unwarranted comments=opinions=whatever.
In November/December people will be saying different things. Props to you that your healthy and fit! Thanks for joining the Healthy Mama's FB page
I shake off all of it and I'm attempting to embrace this new me and stop comparing myself to others. Height, previous weight, age, eating habits, torso length... Too many variables to worry about.
