What's Your Workout?

Hey ladies!

Now that some of us are rounding the corner into our 2nd trimester, hopefully we are more comfortable working out again! So let's share what has been working for us, or if you're not feeling up to it yet what you want to try now that you're working for two!

I just tried a pregnancy barre workout today for the first time (THANK YOU YOUTUBE!!!) and it kicked my butt! Gosh I'm out of shape! The video was about an hour long . . . I made it 20 minutes lol! I'm hoping to try and do it every other day (or whatever I can get myself to do) and work my way up to doing it for longer amounts of time (like the whole video maybe)

Re: What's Your Workout?

  • I have to get my self back to being properly hydrated but I added a 15 minute short yoga video back into my routine

  • Walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Lifting the coffee mug to my mouth. Or the deli sandwich.

Haha, just kidding. Not really. I do want to start walking again as soon as the weather cools down. I think right now my biggest excuse is that my contacts aren't working right now (vision changes, yay) so I have to wear my glasses and I get aggravated when they start sliding off my nose when Im sweating. First world probs, I know, but thats all I got. :)

    edit: grammer fix
As a fellow glasses wearer I feel your pain. I can't count how many times I've been blind on a treadmill because I couldn't stand my glasses sliding off my nose!
  • Barre workouts are tough! The prenatal ones are harder than regular, I think!

Oh gosh I would be so dizzy if I tried that… I would have to run with my eyes closed and then I would fall. ER trip. It would be bad. Maybe if I wear a hat it would help? Im off tomorrow and told my youngest we would take a walk around the neighborhood in the am, I may just try it. If I succeed Ill give you credit for the motivation.  ;)

  • Walking! :) Can't wait until it's cooler so I'd be more willing to go. I feel yucky in the morning when it's cool but then it's too hot in the afternoon when I'm feeling better. I'm also thinking of doing some light weights. I feel so flabby!

  • Whoops, I guess I dropped the ball on making a weekly exercise check in this week!

I need to start walking/jogging again. It's been hot and I'm in the habit of being lazy thanks to first tri so I haven't been doing much. Ughhh.

  • I've been super lazy this week; it's been so hot- 106 today. I'm totally over summer. Bring on some cooler temps so I can go outside!

Probably gonna swim and run on the treadmill this weekend. But I'm going to do some research on a 2nd trimester safe weight lifting plan to start next week- now that some exercises just aren't working for me.

  • Having a toddler means I've been walking and running a lot. We go to the zoo at least once per week. We also go to the gym Tues/Thurs so my kid can socialize and I do a small workout. I do the elliptical for 10min, then do strength training and a lot of stretching. The dogs help with getting at least two walks in per day.
  • Walking most days bc we have a dog who requires a good amount of exercise. However, I am trying to also maintain my pre-pregnancy workout routine at a slower pace. I like to mix up at least 2 days of hour long cardio (Zumba, jogging, aerobics classes) with a couple of days of weight training at less weights per my physician. I do enjoy swimming so I try to do this at least once on the weekends.
I just finished graduate school so I feel like I have tons of time to fit it back in now.
Everything I have read says exercise during pregnancy is so great for the baby, post pregnancy weight loss, and shorter labors. As this is my second pregnancy and my first labor was 17 hours, I'll do anything to help shorten my labor!!!!
  • I've really tried to push through my morning tiredness and continue my regular morning workout. I've found the days I don't, I have so much less energy and am way more nauseous. M-W-F I've been running about 5 miles, then T-Th I either do cross training and/or yoga. Most nights my husband and I go on a 45-60 minute walk. I just hit 12 weeks, so I'm planning on talking to my doctor about what modifications I need to start making particularly with running sprints and ab exercises.
  • I put my gym membership on hold. I was getting up 5:30 to take classes but couldn't get out the door because of puking. Then by 7pm was a crying zombie. Now I'm using the elliptical at home and swimming.
  • We went for the walk this am ladies. It was only about a mile but I was out of breath and my legs were screaming at the end. Its been so long since I have jogged (I jog slow) that my body was like "What the hell are you doing to me" I applaud you ladies that are still working out and especially those that are kicking butt with cardio…. my shortness of breath is killer.

  • A few years ago we had a gym membership and I was working out super regularly and was in the best shape of my life. Then we couldn't afford it anymore so we had to stop going, and since then I haven't been able to stick with anything. I'm really trying now though for baby, so hopefully I can stick with it this time! I've never been the "active" sort, and when I've always been naturally slender so I could kind of get away with not working out a ton (although the last few years I've definitely gained a little as my metabolism started to slow a little), so it's challenging, but I figure I'll DEFINITELY not be able to "get away" with not working out after I have a kid like I could before . . . soooooooooooo I better suck it up and start now!
  • I haven´t really felt like working out so far but I´m starting to feel better.
I´m taking my first yoga class today and start swimming next week, willing to add some walking and I hope I can stick to my routine :)

  • I have not worked out AT ALL since I got pregnant.  I get out of breath going up and down the stairs to do laundry >.< hoping to start walking soon!

I've been doing CrossFit because that's what I did before pregnancy for 3 years and my doctor said that that's okay. I just have to watch my heart rate. Feeling much better second week into my second trimester.

I like to work it in anyway I can. I crack up at myself every time I use it.
  • Running 4-5 days a week, 5 miles each day. I have to push my son in his stroller most of the runs though, so those are definitely my slower days. Push-ups, abs and squats for conditioning. My nausea actually goes away while running and for a few hours after. Makes me love running more than I already do.
  • I try to walk to and from work 4-5 days a week (about a mile) and usually it's at a very brisk pace because I'm always running late.  I also take 1/2 hour to hour long walks on my lunch breaks (when it's not too hot) and wear a fitbit to track my steps, which are on average 10,000 a day.  I have a gym membership but it's been severely neglected, in part because of laziness and in part because it's no fun to go to the gym when I'm nauseated or have a killer headache.  Hoping to turn the corner on headaches soon, though.  Fingers crossed.

Oh! And I want to start prenatal yoga!  Has anyone tried that yet?  I'm scoping out classes near me  for the best deal, but I've been too timid to go because I'm not showing yet and I don't know when you are supposed to start...

  • I started using Suzanne Bowen's Slim & Toned Prenatal Barre DVD a few weeks ago after a break from weeks 6-11(ish) when all I could handle was walking. I really like the DVD--it's not super intense but I definitely feel like I'm working out!
  • Getting up from the couch to go to the bathroom, or to get another cup of water? Does that count. Lol!
When ds is in daycare this fall I hope to visit the gym and do a little cardio.
  • Whole lot of nothing. I pay a monthly fee for a nice gym membership...need to get back into it. This week, I took the following steps:

Took a 20 minute walk in the evening

Packed a gym bag, for use in the imminent future

    Next week, gym? Yes.

There are some free classes on doyogawithme.com that are great! I wanted a little more variety so I signed up for Gaiam's membership and they have a lot of videos... Definitely worth checking out. There's a free membership to try out as well. I'm about to do a class right now!

  • Workout? I justtttt cannnt yetttt :(( I feel bad about it for a second, then I remembered that I'm growing a human and it takes up all my energy. I give you guys a lot of credit that do work out. Pre preg I was an avid runner. Its gonna suck feeling how much I regressed when I get my energy back and get back to it.
  • I'm thinking of signing my daughter up for the next baby/toddler swim class. They're only 8 weeks long and it'll give me something to do and maybe be relaxing? Not sure if I'll just be super uncomfortable at that point in the water. I can't handle baths so not sure how a pool would go! :(
  • Lap swim, yoga, and walks. I can carry these all the way into third tri so I figured they are good. All help sciatica too!

Thank you for this! I've been thinking I should really get around to figuring out a prenatal yoga shtick. I haven't noticed any places in particular but I haven't really looked yet.
--I've been running some but really slacked lately with work hours picking up. I steal walks during those hours though >:) so I've been logging 10 miles/day pretty much every day. It's keeping me from getting out of shape but I miss long runs--and ballet and bikram. Muscle tone is not going to take care of itself, I'm afraid. :( Planning to bring those back in some form before too long passes.

  • Walking, running, Cize, and 21 Day Fix. I'm pretty good with my cardio but this pregnancy I want to keep up with the strength workouts too. I lost too much muscle last time around and I don't want that to happen again! Although carrying the toddler is a lot of work too!

  • I was very active pre-pregnancy with running, boot camp classes, etc. My doc wants my heart rate under 140 now so I've lowered workouts to lots of walks and strength training. It's definitely hard to get my butt up some days but it usually makes me feel better! I take a breathing break if I get winded (which is definitely happening!). Have fun working out ladies!
  • Still running 22 miles a week (running 6 days a week). I'm really proud of myself! Last pregnancy I stopped running early because I was so scared!

Do you have to pee a lot when you run? I just ran 3 miles and had to pee twice during, even though I went right before! Good thing I was at the gym. So frustrating!

Yes! I stopped to pee twice! That is my only complaint!
