Bottle Feeding Issues

My little one had high risk levels of jaundice so I had to pump, measure, and bottle feed everything for the first two weeks. Then we got cleared by the dr that he was okay and I went back to a mixture of bottle and breast feeding, he now breast feeds great but if I try to give him a bottle he sucks like a crazy man but doesn't actually swallow! But if I take the bottle out of his mouth he screams! He used to down his bottle in no time before I went back to breastfeeding. This happen to anyone else? Tips?

Re: Bottle Feeding Issues

  • What bottles are you using? Dr. Browns and Avent bottles both mimic breastfeeding better than other bottles do, so if you're not using one of those you might try them out and see how your LO does. My bubs switches between breastfeeding and Dr. Browns bottles with no issues.

  • We've been using Tommee Tippee which is supposed to be close to breast too. Although, I did try Dr. Brown's and it didn't seem to make too much of a difference. I do have an Avent that I haven't tried yet. I'll try that and hope that makes a difference.
  • My son did that too... we bought the tommee tippee first feed bottle, it has an extra slow flow nipple since he has such a hard suck. It works for him, but now he takes about 40 min to finish 4oz.
