Period type pain 28 weeks

Hi
Yesterday late afternoon I had pains just like a period. They eased off late evening. However, today it has started again about the same time. Can anyone tell me what it is? If I should be concerned? And how to ease it?
Many thanks x

Re: Period type pain 28 weeks

  • It's likely ligament pain, you could try Tylenol and a heating pad on low. Not physicians though so if you're worried you should call your doc.

  • Keep hydrated! Have a warm bath. The first time i had serious pain i rushed to a dr but your bodys still stretching and making room for baby which doesnt feel very good lol
  • I'm only 24 weeks but had period-like cramps a couple of nights ago. Then I've had round ligament pain for the past 2 days whenever I walk. I'm only guessing, but I'm putting it down to a baby growth spurt as my bump has definitely got bigger in the past 48 hours too. I'm also reassured that I can still feel my baby very regularly. For now I'm drinking plenty of water as that is supposed to help.
As PP said, you should seek medical advice if you are worried.
  • If you are having period like cramps then you should call your doctor to be safe. I had that at 23 weeks and they had me go to ER to double check it was not pre term contractions. Most likely it's not and is the uterus stretching, ligament pain or muscle pain
  • I would call your ob. Can be a number of things, including bowel movement pain and gas.
  • It may be nothing, but none of us are doctors.  I suggest calling your doctor about this issue and getting her input on what to do next.  If you can't reach her right away, I suggest you hydrate and try a warm bath.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • Call your doctor.

  • Yep, call your doctor. I had some period like cramps a few days ago and called, they told me to drink a big glass of water, lie down, and count for an hour. If it was more than 5 they wanted me to come in. I had 4 and they eased up after I rested and drank water, at my appointment yesterday she told me I went from measuring 28 weeks to measuring 34 weeks over the last 2 weeks (I'm having twins), so it was probably just a growth spurt and over exertion/dehydration.
  • I've had these off & on all through my pregnancy. I've always been small and my doctor said it's common for small women to feel these stretching pains throughout their first pregnancy. If you drink a glass of water and lay down, do they subside? If so, they are likely from stretching and I wouldn't worry about them. If they continue to bother you while laying down, call your doctor as it could be a sign of pre term labor. This is what my doctor advised.
  • Always call your doctor if you have a concern.... that's what they're there for!

I had the exact same thing happen, turned out I was dehydrated, but worth the call to the doctor.
  • I get those once in a while and it's mostly when I'm not drinking enough and am on my feet for awhile. They always go away once I'm able to sit down relax and take a drink.

  • Braxton hicks maybe?

But call your doctor's office. That is what they are there for!
