Hallie

I did a poll the other day and mostly everyone voted Molly but we are loving Hallie. (HAL-lee)

My thoughts on it are that it is a classic name yet still sounds fresh and I like that it isn't too common.

I've looked on other sites and Hallie has got good feedback. Women named Halle said they wish their parents spelled it Hallie (I wouldn't consider Halle...that says HAL to me).

Anyways...thoughts?

Re: Hallie

  • Personally, I do not like this name. So, my recommendation would be name her Harriet with nn Hallie (Cause BTN says Hallie is a diminutive of Harriet)

That said, with all the Haileys and Hedleys and Henleys, I also don't think it's particulary fresh.

  • See, I associate it more with Ally than Hailey even. I appreciate and thank you for your opinion :) I want honest thoughts.

And thank you for the recommendation but Harriet is really, really nms.
  • I like Hallie just fine, even though I think I like Molly a bit more. But if you and your husband love it, go for it!

I think the suggestion to name her Harriet and call her hallie is brilliant. (Or Hailey?) To me, hallie is not a name that ages well. Giving your kid a nickname for life unnecassarily burdens them as they approach adulthood. For some reason, we seem to do this more to girls than boys. (How many Matts do you know whose actual name is Matt and not matthew? Mike? Dan? Few if not zero.) please give your daughter a formal first name so she can choose how she would like to be addressed as an adult. Don't sentence her to a life of having a five year olds name.
  • i really like hallie. if y'all like it, i say go with it. it's a very nice name. :)

  • I'm not a fan of Molly. I remember your board and voted for Hallie. I don't ever see it and a great name, it's my taste.

  • I like Hallie. I like it better than Molly. I personally don't like the idea of naming her Harriet to call her Hallie. I think you should just name her Hallie.
  • I don't see how Hallie is a nickname for Harriett? Harry or Retta. But not Hallie...lol.

Thanks everyone. I think Ally ages fine...Halle Berry seems normal, no?
  • Love it. I work with a girl named Hallie. I definitely associate it more with Ally, and I don't necessarily think it needs to be a nickname. I would say Hallie over Molly, I personally think Hallie would age better... Molly reminds me of the American Girl doll I had when I was kid, but maybe I'm the only one lol.

Halle is great but I like Molly and holly more.
  • I prefer the spelling Halle. Almost anything with an -ie usually looks juvenile.

    Hallie is the proper spelling.

Halle (like Halle Berry) is a surname (And the name of the deptartment store Halle Berry was born in, hence her name)
  • We almost named our l/o Hallie (pronounced Halle) but instead chose to go with Callie. I still love the name! I say go for it!
  • It's okay but I don't think it's particularly fresh or interesting. When I first looked at the name I initially thought it was Hailey and I'm going to guess that a lot of people will think the same.

Have you thought about Sadie? It has the same vibe as Molly and Hallie without the possible hassle of any pronunciation issues.
  • DH and I are considering Halina nn Hallie for a daughter. That was his grandmother's name so it works well for us since we love family names. Hallie on its own is too nicknamey for me on its own.
