2nd Trimester

I'm not showing at all?

I'm 18 weeks +6 days along, so almost half way through and I'm still not showing. I'm a short girl with an athletic build and this is my first pregnancy. My doctor assures me that the baby is measuring normal and healthy but I'm just worried I'm not doing something right, or something is wrong. Is anyone else not really showing? When I lay down on my back I can feel exactly where the baby is, but when I stand up you can't see him anymore! I feel like I'm carrying very low also. I'm just curious if anyone else is in the same boat!

Re: I'm not showing at all?

  • If you do a search on this you will find tens, if not hundreds of posts on this subject. The long and the short of it is - if your doctor isn't worried, you have no reason to be either. Some FTMs don't show until much much later, everyone is different, don't compare yourself to others.

  • Wss^^^. A lot factors into when you'll start to show. # of pregnancies, weight, height, genetics, etc. it's not uncommon for FTMs not to show until late 2nd tri to early 3rd tri.
  • Ever seen the show "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant"? You're fine. A girl I work with didn't know she was pregnant till 27 weeks for several reasons including no bump! It's not uncommon.
  • I didn't start showing, until I was 19 weeks 5 days. And I'm now 21 weeks 4 days. Each person is different. :) So, when you show, you will know! Some women show very little, and it takes time for them to REALLY start showing. And some show almost instantly!
  • My SIL didn't know she was pregnant til 32 weeks! Sometimes if you have a strong muscle build in the abdomen and are a FTM you just don't show much til later.

It's normal for a FTM not to show until 24-30 weeks.

  • It has to do with your frame and weight as well. I noticed overweight people might take longer to show sometimes ^-^

No, it doesn't. There's really no way to know who will show when, and frame/weight are irrelevant. My sister and I are very similarly built, only I'm an inch or two take (still very short), yet she was in maternity pants by 14 weeks and I'm on week 25 and still barely have a bump and wearing regular jeans. Neither of us are overweight.
