Eczema & Pregnancy

I've had eczema off and on throughout my entire life. Since moving to Texas 5 years ago it has been pretty much non-existent, but pregnancy has since changed that unfortunately. I'm so itchy and all of the creams I'd usually use to get rid of it contain ingredients I'm not sure are great for the grow LO. Any suggestions? I'd ask my doctor, but it's a military hospital and they won't see me until 11 weeks. I cannot go another 3 weeks itching like this...it's horrible!

Re: Eczema & Pregnancy

  • Do they have a nurse advice line? My military hospital does, and you can call them for advice about what medicines are all right to use.

  • I left a message 2 days ago with the nurse line and they haven't called me back. It says they have 48 hours to call back, so they are at their time limit. I'll call back again, but I need advice now. I itch so badly.
  • I actually got eczema for the first time when I was 8 months pregnant with my second baby. I only got it on my finger tips. Since I obviously constantly use my hands they got so horrible, bleeding constantly etc. I did use a prescription cream I got from the dr but later found a cream that worked exactly the same. I use cortisone for eczema. I got it at Walmart. Ever since I got it you can not tell at all that I have ezcema and I actually haven't used it in over a year.

Ok there is this company called Melaleuca (not sure of spelling) and they make this gel cream thing called Mela Gel. I had some excema on my ankles FOREVER and it cleared it right up. Two months later it is still gone and I can't believe it. I mean maybe it's just a fluke but I don't think so! I haven't used it since my BFP as I haven't needed to but if you google it just check it is safe for use during pregnancy and I really really really recommend it!

  • Coconut oil is a wonder for an alternative treatment. My DD had Eczema on her back when she was younger and I put coconut oil on it and the next day it was almost completely gone.
  • Thank you ladies. I put another call in to the nurse here and they still haven't gotten back to me. I guess they don't think eczema is very important. I'll try a few of these suggestions and see if it helps.
  • I do coconut oil mixed with tea tree oil for my posoriasis.  I love it!  For my eczema on my face, pretty much any unscented lotion (I tend to switch between aloe vera and cocoa butter lotion) tends to help soothe my face.
