Brewer Pregnancy Diet?

Hey ladies!  Happy Friday!

I have been trying to come up with a plan to get back to eating properly/exercising now that the first trimester is over and I am starting to feel better.  Has anyone here read about or tried the Brewer pregnancy diet?  It looks interesting and definitely pops up in a lot of natural childbirth discussions, but I don't personally know anyone who has done it.

Thanks! :)

Re: Brewer Pregnancy Diet?

  • I just googled this to see what it was about and one of the first things I read is this:

"Research done over the past fifty years [as of 1983], including some of my own, has made it increasingly clear that if the mother's diet is inadequate in any of several different ways, these difficulties may result:
  • spontaneous abortions (miscarriages)
  • abruption of the placenta (premature separation of the afterbirth from the wall of the uterus)
  • intrauterine growth retardation (a slowdown of the baby's growth during pregnancy)
  • prolonged and difficult labor
  • increased need for Cesarean delivery ...."
  • No. Just no. I've had multiple miscarriages and am pretty damn sure that my diet had nothing to do with any of them.

I would just stick with healthy foods, protien, fruits, veggies, fiber, etc. and try not to get sucked into one of the scam/fad diets.

  • Eating healthily is great, but pregnancy isn't really the time to think about dieting.

  • I've heard of it and thought of it more as guidelines to make sure you're getting enough of the right foods, but I for sure would not be using it as a "diet". Common sense will tell you which foods you should try to consume or not so much. But pregnancy doesn't always jive with common sense and sometimes all you can stomach is bread (me for 3 weeks) or sour foods or whatever. Don't overwhelm yourself with strict diets right now.. You've got the rest of your life for that :)

  • I totally understand that.  "Diet" doesn't mean you are trying to lose or gain weight, it is just a word to describe/discuss your calorie intake.

  • I looked at it and it was talking about weight loss so that's why I took it like I did.

  • unless the doc says I'm gaining wayyy too much weight, I see pregnancy and nursing as the times in my life when I am free to eat however much I want of whatever I want (as long as it's safe for pregnancy).  Of course, sneaking in healthy stuff in between all the ice cream and pizza is important too :)  why take such a wonderful time like pregnancy and make it all diet-y ;)
