Stroller Talk

Not seeing anything within the last few pages related to this.

I'm thinking of getting a BOB Motion Travel System because of the pneumatic tires.  Anyone with any suggestions?  What are you thinking about getting?

Re: Stroller Talk

  • I hear really great things about BOBs! I am getting a Britax B Agile, with my last 2 kids I had a Britax B Ready and loved it! I highly recommend the B Ready to anyone thinking of having kids close in age who might need a double stroller in the future.

I was considering the B-Agile travel system.  Do you do a lot of walking outdoors?  My main concern has been the tires.  BOB was one of the cheapest strollers with air-filled tires (that wasn't a jogging stroller).

Are you going to get the car seat adapter?  I considered doing this and then it ended up being just as expensive as the BOB, lol

  • One of my girlfriends gave me the book "baby bargains" and it has many chapters on different baby products. I am doing Internet research as well but it was everything laid out so conveniently and all in one place. Smart shopper tips, unnecessary features, review and ratings on all the brands, etc. Definitely worth a read! I will take it to the store with me when I register.

That being said, I will most likely register for the Britax Agile B! Not the whole travel system though. The BOB has great reviews and was originally my first choice but a little out of our budget.
  • Oooh, I'll have to check that out @AngelEsshaki!  I'm trying to avoid any unnecessary purchases.  Baby stores are overwhelming to say the least.

I'd love a Bob. All of the reviews and things I've heard about it are all positive.

I don't use the stroller a ton. Mainly for walks in the neighborhood, trips to the zoo, etc. I couldn't justify the price for my needs.

I was between the B-Agile and the City Mini based on reviews and price range. I went to the store and test drove them. I preferred the City Mini, so I went with that. I've loved it and have zero complaints.

I did not do the car seat adapter. DS was born at the beginning of fall. I wore him for the first few months, we didn't walk much in the winter, and by spring he sat on his own and sitting in the stroller was easy. I think the adapter would have been nice, but it was also a cost/use decision and I decided I could do without it.

I say, if you are going to hike, go to the beach, use it all the time- go with a Bob!
  • I got the Nuna Pipa car seat and Nuna Mixx stroller. I liked that the stroller could be forward or rear facing with the stroller seat or the car seat, and that it had such sturdy tires. It also collapses really easily and doesn't weigh much for a stroller I can use on streets or the trail. Also, we paid less than $800 for both together.
  • DH's brother and SIL gave us their Graco umbrella stroller, and I am planning to get the Graco Click Connect Jogging stroller. We don't have sidewalks in our neighborhood, so I wanted something with air-filled tires.

Ooooh, I love the look of those.  A little out of our price range, though.  Did you buy them from a store or ebay/amazon?

  • We are getting the BOB Revolution Flex and getting the Britax B-Safe 35 car seat/adapter to make it into a travel system.
  • I also received the Baby Bargains book as a gift and love it! I reallllllly, really really want to get an Uppababy Vista but I am not sure I can swallow the price tag. It looks fantastic and has great reviews, plus I want to (God willing) have my children very close in age and I would be able to convert the uppa to a double.

  • Does anyone know what other strollers can be converted to doubles if needed?

I saw one at target the other day that looked like it was trying to copy the Uppababy. DH pulled it down and it felt really flimsy though. I want to say it was a BabyTrend brand or a Graco, can't remember. I think also a "bugaboo" something converts but I read some reviews about the folding being annoying (have to take the seats off first??)

  • I just got a graco at a garage sale. Our plan is to get a jogger when little one is big enough for me to run on country roads with but wanted something in between for trips n such.

I bought the Elite for my first with intentions on getting getting there adaptor but never did. The seat reclines so much the after a the first couple months I just my son in the seat. I also didn't use the stroller a lot initially so it wasn't a big deal.

I bought the city select so I could have a double now.

The B Ready can be! We go it with the infant carrier when I had DS then bought the second seat when I had DD, I love love loved it! It doesn't have the air tires but I took it everywhere, walking through the grass and stuff was no problem. We don't need to double anymore so that is why I want the b agile, I just want something smaller.
  • We are getting the uppababy vista. We'll use the bassinet that comes with it on a stand for baby to sleep in in our room. The Mesa car seat attaches to the base without a converter. The vista comes with a rain shield and sunshade, all extra things we would have to buy anyway. I think in the end it justifies the price.
  • We went with the City Mini too. Totally love it!
  • @emzie54 exactly! I'm not sure how this would apply to anyone else but our 2nd biggest reservation is that it may come off as showboaty. My SIL just had a baby in March and when she came back from registering one day she and her husband were making fun of a couple who looked at the uppababy while they were looking at other strollers, and implied that it was ridiculously priced. We're already a little self conscious about how much we earn (and spend) compared to the rest of the family and a $900 stroller would only make it worse. :-S

We have a bugaboo donkey. It's amazing. Not cheap. But amazing.
  • I was wondering if anybody had an Urbini stroller/carseat? I don't plan on using the stroller basically at all until he is walking but I'd like to have it for random situations. With that, I don't want to spend a ton and I like the look of the Urbini. I know it's a cheap set (walmart $150) but I really don't need a $500 stroller to sit in my trunk for a year. I just haven't heard anybody mention it, so I was curious if there was something wrong with it.
  • @kkfl2m+b We are in exactly the same boat. MIL was shocked that her other so. Would spend over $400 on a stroller, so I can only imagine her reaction to double that. That said, I think that all of the extras and capabilities make it worth it for us. We've seen so many people with the travel systems have to move on to a bigger stroller and then eventually buy a double, so one and done seems cheaper in the long run. I just think of it as a bigger initial investment, but it all evens out in the end.
  • Ok, here are the thoughts of a cheap/poorish mom. I've had a Graco and a Chicco travel system and was very happy with both (replaced one because it was in the trunk when we got rear ended). I liked the Chicco better, but it wasn't a big deal. Since we sold everything after our last This time I'm going to get a car seat carrier (no seat) and an umbrella stroller for when the baby can sit. My sister did that with all 5 of hers and likes how the stroller was small, light, and easy to handle.

I'm a FTM. After looking and testing some strollers, I really liked the britax b-agile 35 travel system. It's highly rated, easy to maneuver, and I loved that it came with the car seat already (the car seat is also highly rated and even used by prince William lol!). The price in the end, with all that it came with was perfect.

Then My sisters said I should think about those that converter to a double stroller since I planned on having at least two kids close in age. So that left me with the city select or the uppababy Vista 2015. The uppababy Vista is more expensive (double the amount ) but it has a one click folding system, light, holds up to 3 kids and comes with alot that @emzie54 talked about (rain and bug shield). We decided to get the uppababy Vista as well and plan to use the bassinet in our room. As for the infant car seat, uppababy has a chicco adapter so we are getting the chicco keyfit 30 (this has the best reviews especially for safety. I read some reviews on amazon.. There's a ton of reviews where people got into major accidents and their car flipped over but the baby was safe with no scratches. I live in Michigan where there's a lot of snow and accidents so reading those reviews sold me on the car seat ).

I think in the end when we get more kids, it'll be a good investment overall. My sisters are pitching in for some of it and then we are going to use gift cards that we get at the baby showers to help with cost as well.

For the umbrella stroller, I'm getting a hand me down from my sister : maclaren techno xt. Free is good! Lol
  • We have a frame stroller that our car seat clicks into, which was super nice when my son was still in the infant carrier. We also have a graco click connect jogger, and I hate it, the front wheel gets caught on itself and won't spin or move and it is super annoying. I splurged for a (used) bob dualie since DS won't be 2 when his sister arrives. We also have a pretty good umbrella stroller so I have options lol
  • @cawalp I have the urbini Omni from DS. I liked the bassinet feature without spending a lot of money because I knew I wouldn't use a stroller often. I baby wear mostly and use the jogging stroller when we go to zoo etc. I had no problems with the omni, car seat was light weight, stroller folded easily. My only complaint is that it's impossible to purchase an extra car seat base and I really wanted one for H's truck. I contacted the company and they finally said I could mail a check to them and they would mail me one, but at that point we were almost ready to switch to the convertible car seat so I didn't bother. Now, if I'd known I was going to have another child so soon I would have just went ahead and splurged on the city select.

That stinks that you feel like there would be judgement from your family about your choice, @kkfl2m+b. Sounds like an issue that may continue well beyond stroller buying though (what schools you decide to send him/her to, vacations, camps, clothes), so maybe worth confronting now. I feel like the stroller is going to get so much daily use that you really have to go with the one that you are most comfortable with. It will absolutely be worth the investment!
  • I LOVE my city mini GT stroller. It is amazing in every way. The easy fold, the hand break, the fact that the whole seat snaps off for easy cleaning, the seat lays back almost flat, the canopy is huge and amazing, the never need to pump but always inflated all terrain tires all just amazing.

A few draw backs are the storage undercarriage isn't huge. But I bought a skip hop shoulder bag that attaches off the side of the stroller and it was just fine. Also you have to buy things like the parent console and snack tray separate. But that pales in comparison so how amazing this stroller is.
  • Everyone I have talked to has said go with the BOB including others who have gone with other brands and regretted it. I haven't decided whether or not to register for it. My SIL said to register for it because a group of people could go together on it. But I feel bad because if we buy it we would get a second hand one and I hate to register for a new one if we would be buying second hand. So I haven't figured out what to do. I am going to do a stroller frame for the first 5 months.

If it's something you would use a lot, I would just go for it and register for it.  If no one buys it, cool, just get it second hand.

  • Register for what you really want but also make sure you register for stuff at a bunch of different price points. You can always return things. I found that I am happier with the things I really want then settling for other stuff and regretting it later.

If your going to jog get the BOB, but from what I hear it's huge and heavy and not great for stores/shopping. But if you are going to run, walk trails, or frequent the beach I say go for it. If not, the City Mini GT has great all terrain wheels.
  • @laineylove78, the BOB makes a great non-jogging stroller as well.

We got it at a store - BabyEarth.com ships everywhere, but they also happen to have a storefront near where I live.  I got to practice clicking the car seat and the stroller seat in and out of the stroller and collapsing the stroller. It was so easy and light enough to carry around. I like that it folds flat and can be rolled behind you -I see that coming in handy at the airport.
