3rd Trimester

HUGE baby

ok so I'm currently 34 weeks and I've been told from 18 weeks I was going to have a big baby but now she's already about the size of a new born. My doctors concerned about me going into labour early since I'm already 2cm, have a smaller build and she's dropped and causing me a lot of pain. I'm not very big belly wise but she takes up all the room that's there and I don't have diabetes. Just wondering if anyone else is having a larger baby or has already had them. Would ease my mind to know I'm not alone here

  • I had a 10# 14oz kid and I was fine. The estimates are notoriously off I wouldn't put much stock in it.
  • I've had a 9lb and 10lb 2 oz baby. Both hassle-free med-free births. With the 9lber I needed two stitches. With the 10lber, I didn't tear at all.

Granted I'm tallish, but I don't think size of baby has much baring on the ease of birth. I think there are other things that are more important like the baby's position.

I had a large baby and it wasn't bad at all giving birth. Just to bring up what someone mentioned your body is ENTIRELY capable of producing a baby too large to birth. Some people end up with c-sections for that very reason. Remember OP that weight of the baby at this time is an estimate so just keep eating right and trying to get as much activity as you can, just to keep body ready.

Not impossible but very, very, very rare.

    OP please read this

  • I was told DD would be at least 9lbs 10oz at my last growth scan at 38 weeks. She was born at 40+2 at only 7lbs 6oz. Scans can be off. And it bugs me when OBs say their patients are going to go early. They have no way of knowing. I went from no dilation to birthing a baby in 24 hours. I had a friend who walked around at 3cm for weeks and still needed to be induced at 42 weeks. I would try to relax.

    All of this.

On the flip side, my sister was told that her baby was in the 7lb range. He was 10lb 3.5oz. Estimates can be off in both directions.
  • There is 10% error rate...or so my doctor say. Our baby was weighing 5lbs, 2oz at our 33 week ultrasound (90th percentile). By the looks of her chubby cheeks, I don't think the doctors are too far off.
  • My son was 11lbs 2oz when he was born ...... 12 days early
  • My 4th was the largest I've had and as pp have stated, the estimates given on size are more often than not, off. Just try to relax and everything will be fine. Women have been giving birth to babies of all kinds of sizes forever. :) Also, the size of your belly doesn't mean anything as far as the size of your baby.

  • I know this is a bit late, but I wanted to add that with all 3 of my sister's pregnancies she was informed her babies would be 8+ lbs.
Each of them were in the 6lb range on birth, so I wouldn't worry too much about the size - you dont' know until you deliver! :)

Which considering this was from August, has probably already happened.

True, but as 3 others commented yesterday, I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

I'm not really on you, just quoted you because of your last line. You're not the zombie.
