I lay on my back and let LO lay on my chest. He seems much more comfortable than on the mat and likes to look up at me. He'll also try to root around a bit, so he gets a little extra neck workout : )
Keep trying! Even if it's 2 minutes, it's great! Eventually she'll tolerate it more and will come to enjoy it, especially when she learns to roll around! If you have a boppy, try propping her up on that. DS1 did better like that at first rather than on the floor.

We've been doing it every couple of days, DS doesn't like it but will tolerate it. Before we left the pedi nurse told us that tons of babies have abdominal issues due to always being on their backs & that tummy time is important.
Our pediatrician recommended tummy time on our chests until 2 weeks old and then on the floor for at least 20 minutes a day, can be broken up into small intervals of time.
Also recommended that they do more than just chest tummy time because it helps them develop more than just neck muscles on the mat, like shoulders, arms and back muscles.
My LO gets fed up pretty quick of being on her tummy but either myself or DH will lay on the floor and put our faces next to her and talk to her. This helps her calm down and tolerate it more. We also don't do it that long at a time.
Just stick with it, majority of babies hate tummy time until they can roll over or move around. Good luck!
My LO refused to move during tummy time. He will just lay there and the first time he actually fell asleep while I was on his other side trying to call his name to get him to turn his head!
Tummy time is Sooooo important. My first had tortacolisis (or wryneck) I think it was due to either the position when he was in utero or something that happened at birth. They were concerned that a flat spot would develop. (Actually a small flat spot did develop but if you catch it in time, it can reshape itself and you can avoid having to wear the helmet) He needed more than just tummy time. We ended up doing physical therapy till he was 9 months old. He was really late in a lot of the gross motor skills (he didn't roll over till the end of 5 months). But now he is a healthy happy 4 year old. I started tummy time very early with number 2. Yesterday, with the help of the weight of her head, she used her right arm to push up enough, allowing her to roll to her back. She's 5 weeks old. She is very strong. And took a very long nap after that work out.
