February 2016 Moms

Hello, everyone!

Hi there,

If no one minds, I think I'll be participating in the Feb board in addition to the January one, since I'm due 1.31 and feel so far behind everyone else on the Jan board!  Anyway, little about me - I'm 34, a FTM and my husband and I are expecting a little girl.  We have a dog and two cats that we adore, I work in reality tv and my husband works in the craft beer industry.  Things are veeeeerry slow at work right now, since the show I'm on is just wrapping up, so I'd love to have two boards to lurk/comment on, if that's ok!

Anyway, hello!  :)

  • Welcome! I've just finished watching UnREAL. Have you seen it? I'd love insight on if that is what the behind the scenes on reality TV is really like. Also I just recommend that show as being super compelling

@salixjoy38 I haven't seen it yet, though I want to!  I am, ironically, very, very far behind on my TV viewing because I spend such long hours working on TV shows, haha.  But I'm hoping to catch a couple of episodes of UnREAL between my current show (wrapping next week) and my new show (starting a week later.)  I'll let you know!

I would guess it's probably accurate to some types of reality shows, but they're all very, very different depending on genre.  I work mostly in adventure type reality shows and mostly in post production (the editing and logistical side that happens after filming.)  So, my general day to day is quite a bit more boring than what would make a good TV show, haha. But I have worked in the field as an associate producer and working on set is probably what UnREAL is about.

The only thing that's true for all shows is that they're run a bit like indie films, in that everyone communicates via walkie talkie and headpieces, there's a bunch of set lingo, everything is very fast paced and long hours.  However, the drama factor varies a LOT between show to show.  If you're working on say, House Hunters, it's gonna be pretty dull.  But if you're working on a Real World type show or even a show like Survivor there will be some drama because it's truly unscripted and surprises happen.  Shows like Kardashians are very much scripted and planned out, so there's rarely surprise type drama.  Anyway, sorry I wrote a novel.  I can talk about work all day long unless I stop myself, haha.  ;)
  • Welcome! My EDD is February 3rd but my little boy is weighing in 4 days bigger but who knows! I try my hardest to bump as much as possible even though life gets in the way. Again....so excited to have you with us!

cool! I don't really watch reality TV except for this new show Alone on the Histiry channel. It's an adventure show that takes place in the woods on Vancouver Island (where I'm from) so it's the local connection that got us. Glad to have you here!
