Who else gets majorly carsick?

I can feel fine in my house, then as soon as I get in the car to go somewhere I am sick as a dog! Hits me before I even get out of the driveway. I have to keep bags in my car to vomit in.

Does anyone else have major car sickness , and if yes, do you have any advice on what to do? I have lots of traveling coming up and I pretty much dread it!

Re: Who else gets majorly carsick?

  • I do but I'm usually okay if I'm driving if I'm a passenger I get sick and dizzy so I do the majority of the driving. Not sure if that helps you. Good luck.

  • Same here, I have to drive. If not, try laying g the seat back and keeping your eyes closed the whole time. Also window open or air blowing on my face helps but the I have to use a blanket because I get cold.
  • I'm the same way too. Unless I'm driving it's awful trying to be a passenger anywhere

It's been touch and go with me but what helps me is keeping the window open so I can have a cool breeze and also sucking on a mint!

  • I've always been prone to carsickness but it was really bad this week. What works for me is driving, at least sitting in passenger seat (not the back), looking out window at horizon, hydration and maybe ginger ale, deep breathing, and this one is weird but sometimes I pretend to drive. I started doing this as a passenger in NYC cabs because they drive crazy and lurch at red lights. I watch the lights and traffic and pretend I'm the one putting on the breaks.
  • Oh my gosh yes! It's been so bad! I've had to pull over many times this pregnancy! I keep a tooth brush and tooth paste in my car. I agree that keeping the windows down helps a little. But whether in driving or I'm the passenger I still get sick. Two more weeks til second trimester for me though! Here's hoping ms ends soon!
  • I've struggled with motion sickness my whole life, even sitting up front, we'd often have to pull over so I could throw up on the side of the road. I loved my life on Dramamine. Weirdly, during my first two pregnancies, it got so much better, but came back before my third pregnancy and was so difficult during that one. Now with this baby, it's been even worse, like I can't even drive myself anywhere without getting so sick and that horrible dizzy headache that lingers. I was always told that Dramamine was contraindicated during pregnancy, but recently I saw someone else say the recommendations on that have changed. I'm still not going to take it; just trying to survive until March.

  • thanks everyone!
  • I took a 2 hour drive in the passenger seat, I thought I might die. I never got sick but I just felt like I could be and like my body was trying to eject my soul. Lol. I have never been so uncomfortable. Is it normal to just feel like you can't even lift an arm?
  • My husband tries to joke and make me feel better and I tell him I really appreciate it but I can't even smile or I'll throw up LOL. I had a 2 hour trip yesterday and hardest part was making it out of my neighborhood/2 Lane roads to the interstate.. Also started on a bag of pretzels and it helped to have something in my stomach (even though I'd just ate at the house! Lol)
