Im coming up on week 38 and I work so much I just never found the time for birthing class. This is my first and I feel like I'm gonna go any day now and I was wondering if anyone had any tips to give me during labor&delivery.
Im in the same boat as you lol just a couple of months behind. All i was told was to breath and drink plenty of water and to apply chap stick to help cause you may be breathing through your mouth a bit (depending on your coping abilities with pain). Was also told that walking helps a decent bit. This was info from my family member who is a nurse and has had 3 kids without drugs. Brave woman lol
I work in an Omni hotel, 1/2 a mile long and I walk it all day everyday for 10 hours a day lol. I'm praying all the walking I do pays off during delivery!
I'm in the same boat, 38+3 FTM and no birthing class... I took a free online course from babycenter.com but it didn't really tell me anything that I hadn't already read about... I figure that women have been giving birth for centuries, I should be okay to wing it (with medical help of course... i'm not trying to do med-free or I definitely would have done every class ever made to prepare me.)
My husband and I paid for an online class and we did it at the last minute. I can't really say it ended up helping us much for the actual delivery. Listen to your nurses and do as much research as you can in the meantime, I'm sure all will be fine.
I didn't go to ny prenatal classes except infant cpr and I was fine. I watched a lot of documentaries (Biz of Being Born, Babies, TLC and Discovery Health), read webmd and anything else I could get my hands on about epidurals, c-sections, birth scenarios, etc. Also at every doctors appointment I asked her questions to get her philosophy and make sure we were on the same page about the what-ifs. I was at one of the best hospitals in the country, which is also a teaching hospital, so there was a combined 30+ years of experience to guide me. Even if my hospital wasn't fantastic I didn't see the need for all those classes when I was in a room of trained professionals who trained for this. Nothing I would learn in a few hours could trump that.
I went to birthing classes with my first but found them to be of very little help. As long as you remember to breathe and follow the doctors instructions you will be fine.
I am pregnant with my second. I never took any classes for either pregnancies. I too worked many hours and just never found the time. I also told myself women have been giving birth for millions of years without taking classes so I'll be fine. And I was.
Breathe when they tell you to breathe, push when they tell you to push and you'll be fine. The doctors and nurses will guide you through.
I took one and frankly, didn't really help. What they didn't tell you in class was you need to push like you're going to the bathroom... Which would have been the one helpful thing to have known.
Re: First baby, No birthing class
