my LO chokes when we give it to him and we have to quickly pat his back several times - it scares me so bad! There has to be an easier way than just squirting it into his mouth. He's just not used to swallowing like that.
Have you tried placing the dropper inside by his cheek and squirting a little at a time? You could also take a nipple off of a bottle, squirt the medicine into the nipple, and see if your LO will suck the nipple. Just some advice from a nurse who used to work pediatrics and had to figure out how to give meds with the least amount of medicine getting spit back up.
Are you breastfeeding? You could put some on your nipple or slip it in when you disconnect from the nipple. My husband just told me he added it to the milk (everytime)when he gave our son a bottle. Our son is 4. I never knew that.
Depending on how much your giving our LO, their are little medicine bottles you can buy. They are literally just a mini tiny bottle with a nipple that you can put medicine in or gripe water. And if that doesn't work then you can use a dropper and put it inside your babies cheek while they are sucking on a pacifier or your nipple. That's how we do the vitamin d drops daily with the pacifier and dropper into the cheek.
Thanks everyone!! I just dug through all the healthcare things we were given at his baby shower and I found that small bottle so I'm going to give that a go!
When I had to give mess with a syringe they had me put my finger in her mouth and let her suck on it and then slow squirt the syringe into her mouth next to my finger while she was sucking. As long as she's sucking she's swallowing and protecting her airway.
