Back Pain since Delivering

I have had back pain since giving birth 6 weeks ago. It's mainly in my lower right side where shoulder ends. Every now and then, especially at the end of the day I get a tingle feeling that shoots to arm and fingers. Past few days the aches have moved to the left side.

It could be from carrying baby, bf, lack of core due to little exercise for months...anyone experience this?

Doc told me today to maybe see a neurologist since it sounds like nerve damage, a back doctor, or simply go get a massage. Pretty wide options there...

Re: Back Pain since Delivering

  • I had an epidural and the site where they inserted it felt pretty weird for a few weeks after delivery. Not the same as what you're describing, though, and it's pretty much resolved itself. I think in your situation I'd go to the neurologist, since nerve damage sounds like the most concerning possibility and I'd want to either rule that out or receive treatment for it. I hope you find some answers soon!

  • You may try a chiropractor first. It could be a rib out of place. They usually feel like a sharp stabbing pain. Getting cracked could also release nerve pain.
  • I have tingling between my shoulder blades. It started when I was pregnant and I figured baby was on a nerve. Now I'm blaming it I milk. I keep forgetting to tell the doctor!

My mid back is killing me now, and I know that's from lifting LO, and tilting back while holding him & trying to multitask. I've made it a point to stop doing that and grabbing the ring sling when he wants to be walked around. It's a life saver!
  • I second chiropractor. My back hurt after being home about a week. The chiropractors joke & call it 'mommy back'. It's just using muscles & doing things we're not used too.
  • Also think about core and back strengthening exercises. Perhaps you can get a consult at a physical therapy place? I know it helps me immensely with back pain.
  • Thanks for feedback, mAde a chiropractor apt first so we'll see where we'll go from there!
