Fifths disease

so I found out today at my appointment that I've previously been exposed to fifths disease at a school I've worked at. my doctor said that since I've been exposed that my body is immune to it. Has anyone heard that before?

Re: Fifths disease

  • Fifth disease is a mild rash illness caused by parvovirus B19. This disease is usually not a problem for pregnant women and their babies.

About 50% of pregnant women are immune to parvovirus B19. So, these women and their babies are usually protected from getting the virus and fifth disease.

Pregnant women who are not immune usually do not have serious complications after they are exposed to others with fifth disease. They usually have only mild illness. Also, their babies usually do not have any problems.- DR google

You've built up an immunity to a disease common in your line of work. It's extremely common and something you should be happy about!

  • Yes definitely be happy about that. With my first, one of my good friends little girl got fifths disease and I told my midwife and she had me tested to make sure I already had an immunity to it. Thankfully I did.
