I used to take zumba classes twice a week and play soccer with my dog (he's freaking airbud) prepregnancy. Now I have dropped both, in favor of daily walks and weekly swims as they are less intensive. My OB says that this is very healthy for me and baby and could even potentially make labor easier. As a FTM, I will do anything I can to associate the thought of labor with easy. hahahaha No one has ever had a problem with pregnant me in the pool, but I have had a lady who thought she was a kindly, old woman stop me on the track and tell me that I shouldn't be out in the Texas heat. Honey, I have a hat on as well as sunscreen and you see that giant jug of water in the shade under that tree, it's mine, now eff off.
So what do you ladies think about staying active while pregnant? Are you exercising? How does it differ from the activity you did before you found out you were pregnant? How do people react when they see you out doing these activities?
Re: Staying Active, Safely
I also used to run regularly, but I get overheated pretty quickly. So walking it is.
So I usually walk about 6 miles 2-3 times per week and I've just begun taking pregnancy yoga. When I change into my gym clothes at work i have had a few people comment that they're surprised I still work out and "good for you". I thought it's what I'm supposed to do!
Also, shortly before I found out I was pregnant I got attacked by a dog while out for a run by my house. About a month ago I went for a long walk by my house and dogs were still barking at me obnoxiously and wanting to hurt me even though I wasn't doing anything to them. I really hate dogs but they upset me even more so now since I got attacked.
I haven't really been able to afford the gym the last couple months but I will be able to go back later this month and then I will do more swimming and walking.
Oh and I used to go for long bike rides with my husband but haven't done much of that lately... Maybe twice since I found out I was pregnant and now his bike is messed up...
Sorry so long! In summary, exercise is good but I have been lazy lately!

I think staying active during pregnancy is all about listening to your body and doing what is right for you.
It's a lot harder to find the time and stay motivated now that I have a sweet toddler but I still do long walks, and whenever possible I walk instead of driving for errands. I try to do prenatal yoga at home but I feel kind of like a slacker this pregnancy. I'm also a big proponent of cherishing this time, enjoying being pregnant and if you're exhausted don't beat yourself up for not doing more!! Moderation is the key to happiness, oh and donuts, those help too!
Not saying this will happen for everyone, but my running pace significantly increased after having baby #1. Last fall I shaved 13 minutes off my pre-baby half marathon time and ran my first sub- 2 hour half. Whenever I start to feel too tired, and guilty about getting less exercise I remind myself that I was able to come back from pregnancy stronger and healthier than ever, and I can and will do that again.
I can't be as active as before because I get easily winded now and I have to add a nap when I hike, which is so time-consuming. But I am on my feet all day at work, so that counts, right?
I've found spin, barre and long fast-paced walks are a happy medium between the two workouts and are helping me feel tight and toned.
