FALLING APART!

I just turned 13 weeks today. I have had 2 previous pregnancies which lead to miscarriages around week 5/6. This is the first pregnancy where I've actually felt symptoms such as nausea and fatigue. I've seen the baby grow through several sonos. This is very exciting for me but because of my past it is also extremely nerve racking. For the past 3-4 days, I've had severe pain and stiffness in my lower back. During one of those days I felt a lot of cramping as well but I haven't seen any blood so I figured everything is okay. The cramping has gone away but the pain and stiffness in my lower back is still there. Some days are worse than others. I've also had some hip pain. I'm hoping this all normal. Any advice or anyone else going through this?

Re: FALLING APART!

  • I've been experiencing the same, mild cramping/stretching and back pain. As far as I have heard, your uterus and ligaments are stretching. Our bodies are going to stretch a lot, it can't be without some discomfort, can it?? Good luck :)

  • Our bodies and shifting and our hips are widening. Uterus is also growing rapidly and causing ligaments to stretch and cause very painful "growing" pains, if they are not accompanied by blood I would say it's completely natural. If you're really worried just call your doctor!
  • Stay positive momma! Pregnancy is so much more nerve racking than moms make it out to be!

  • Yup, things are growing and stretching. Also your ligaments all over your body are loosening, which means your lower back might be moving in ways it normally doesn't and you can get back pain from that. I think you're justified calling your Dr. if you are nervous. I'm a nervous wreck right along with you!

  • So glad I'm not the only one! The joys of becoming a momma.
  • I've been having a lot of pain similar too! My hips hurt so bad I can't sleep through the night without changing positions what feels like a million times. Cramping, more so on the sides than really where baby is, all the time. But every checkup baby is ok and I'm told its just as everyone said, growing pains.

  • Back and hip pain are totally normal. I feel it all the time and did with my last pregnancy too. Try Tylenol and a heating pad (just not for long periods of time and not on your belly)

I have heard this ^^ helps and an ice pack too.

I've been driving around with my heated seat on to help my back pain. It's 90+ degrees out, and my husband is convinced I'm insane. It feels so good on my back though! And doesn't get as hot as a heating pad, so I'm comfortable sitting there for a while on my way to work or whatever.
  • I can barely walk today because it feels like my left hip is out of socket. My sciatic nerve is flared up. Like @jilmce19, I've been driving around with my seat warmer on. This wasn't this hard the first time around. Congratulations on your sticky bean OP.

  • @Jilmce19 that's actually genius, I think I must start doing that lol =D>
  • OMG, yes! I'm 14 weeks as of yesterday and my back/legs/hips are so uncomfortable.
  • That pain can be the worse, and in the early stages it's so hard to tell if it's nomal, or if it's something you need to consult your ob about. I definitely feel it right at the beginning of the 2nd trimester, and I've felt it with all 4. Try to relax a little bit and get out the heating pad for your back! I hope you start feeling better soon!

No advice, but hoping for the best!
  • Its been tough for me too. My last pregnancy resulted in miscarriage and this one has a vanishing twin... Or not so vanishing... One of the twins isnt growing and doesnt hav a heartbeat but I still see it on every ultrasound. It's been terrifying and sad and every week just feels soooooo long... I honestly can't wait for the pregnancy to be over and to just have the baby.
  • Find a good chiropractor. All are trained to work with pregnant women but some specialize in it. As other have posted, some pain is normal. However, I found my chiropractor was able to relieve a lot of it for me. As our bodies change to prepare for the baby, we can get out of alignment or pull muscles in our back. I've also heard that it can help with morning sickness.

    Feel better.
