Lifting / carrying shopping..

hey! I have panicked myself this afternoon because I carried 3 bags of fairly heavy shopping 5 mins uphill which caused me to be really out of breath and very very hot! I didn't feel strained although I wanted to stop because they were heavy and it was uphill so was tough! I'm worried I've done something to my bubba and my 12 wk scan isn't until Monday.. Should I be worried or am I overreacting? :-?? I just want to relax but I'm driving myself insane with worry!
Any advice would be great xx

Re: Lifting / carrying shopping..

  • Unless you are cramping/ bleeding after, I wouldn't worry about it. I carry my 30 + lb toddler every day, not to mention, I moved several heavy boxes during my move last pregnancy.  But obviously, if you are worried, call your doctor.
    Don't stress and good luck!

  • I agree with pp. I also carry my 32 lb toddler every day and especially every morning up from downstairs and will say I can feel the difference when I do that every morning. Just try not to push yourself on things your body is not used to already doing.

I carry my 34 lb and my 23 lb toddlers up and down the stairs multiple times a day, just like I've been doing for months. I'm sure you're fine. Unless you're bleeding and cramping or carrying an abnormal amount of heavy weight that you're not use to carrying, I wouldn't worry.
  • Agree, no need to stress unless you start to spot/bleed.  I've never really paid attention to how much I've lifted b/c I think our bodies are pretty resilient when it comes to that.  DD is about 38lbs and I lift her.

As far as getting out of breath, I do that while talking these days! lol  It is b/c everything is starting to push up, giving us less room to expend our lungs...I think.

  • Agree with others unless you start spotting/bleeding you should be fine - I carry my 30 lb toddler daily as well and I carried groceries well into 3rd tri. with him last time around and was completely fine!

  • I regularly lift 40-50lbs at work. I wouldn't worry unless you have some sign of issue (bleeding, etc)

  • Being out of breath is really, really common, and your body just has to work harder to do everyday simple tasks. I'm sure you'll be fine, don't stress about it. It's crazy, I ran up the stairs the other day to answer the phone, and when I answered it really sounded like I was dying......and it's only week 12. :)

  • Aww thank you all I feel much better :)
  • Ha!!! I walked up one flight of stairs at work and then ran into a coworker- I was breathing so hard it sounded like I had just run a marathon :-) glad it's not just me!
  • This kind of thing made me very nervous in my first pregnancy. This time around, I carry my 25 lb son and his gazillion lb diaper bag on a daily basis. No problems so far. Like the others said, if there's no cramping or bleeding, cut yourself a break on the worrying. I'm sure the little one is fine :)
