How to Deal with Stress??

My work situation has been getting very stressful. I wake up thinking about it, get chest pains from the stress, and overall feel incredibly burdened right now because of work.

Anyone feeling this way? Any tips to combat this stress? I'm starting to get worried about it affecting my pregnancy.

Re: How to Deal with Stress??

  • Have you talked to your boss?  Maybe there is something that you can do to help alleviate when it gets really bad...take a walk at work, listen to music, etc.

I am trying to find relaxing music/techniques for labor and also keep my BP down.  I found a lot of youtube videos that really help me to focus when I'm stressed or have anxiety.  I did it before I went to bed the other day and actually fell asleep to it.

  • Can you take a "smoke break" and just walk away from your desk?
I'm no help with sleeping, I have the same problem running scenarios through my head at night and it keeps me awake. Luckily my work stress should be short-lived, I just had a bad day of possible retaliation from the administration so stressing about that :(
  • Agree with PP, My anxiety hits the roof somedays at work. The only way I cope is by meditation and watching relaxing youtube videos at night . Sets the tone for the next day and I find that I'm generally alot calmer during stressful situations.
  • Meditation is the best thing for stress and anxiety. I also have a mantra that a run through my head about 100 times a day. Mine is "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" I repeat it over and over again until I can feel my heart rate slowing and my body relaxing.

  • I can relate to being extra stressed at work while pregnant and then bringing the stress home. This happened a lot with my first pregnancy. What I try and do is make a to do list everyday and keep myself accountable. At the end of the day sometimes I'll start to look at my list for tomorrow too. Keeping organized helps me manage the stress. I then try to leave work at work ( easier said than done). Try taking a relaxing bath or maybe a walk if you are anxious at home. Good luck.
  • There is some great advice listed, I hope it all helps and work becomes less stressful for you! That's definitely not fun, I agree with involving your boss for sure. I bet having him/her aware can help alleviate some of it for you.

  • Exercise helps me along with loud music on th way home. I had this issue in my first pregnancy and I worked from home so I felt like was living my stress all the time. I couldn't switch my brain off at all and was getting exhausted.

In the end I talked to my boss and he was great. He got me extra help for all the work piling up and also suggested I start taking some time at the end of the day to not do meetings etc, which is a habit I continued after I returned. 3-4 is blocked out so I can clear my inbox and get some sanity back in my day.
  • Meditation, yoga, exercise, walking, taking breaks... These are all things I do and they help.

  • Can you take a day off? Take baths with epsom salt or a scent that you enjoy (there are relaxation scents to pick but I never remember what is what other than lavender for sleep). Try to go to bed earlier to get more sleep and deal with the day easier? Get a prenatal massage? Spend time meditating, whether it be sitting with a drink and just thinking of things you're looking forward to or happy vacations or Devotionals, whatever your thing may be. Take a walk when you get home to burn off some extra energy. Make sure you're eating as healthy as possible because a lot of junk food will definitely bog you down. I just had to recommend a lot of these things to s friend at work because he's so stressed his vision is starting to be affected, which likely means his blood pressure is increasing. Oh, and of course, make sure you're drinking plenty of water to keep your body functioning well.

  • I find yoga to be incredibly relaxing and stress relieving ...
  • Maybe try talking to a therapist? If you are getting anxiety attacks, talking to someone may help. My husband has experienced high anxiety before and really benefitted from speaking with a counselor.
  • Maybe talking to HR would help? My hubby has found walking during his breaks helps his stress levels. I go to s therapist and that really helps me. I also love taking walks. My midwife recommended yoga to me so that might be worth a shot. Take care and hang in there! Hugs.

  • Is this a short term or long term situation? I am a planner so when I am in stressful situations I plan out all scenarios and it helps me to 'be prepared'. If I am stressed due to too much stuff at work then I try and take some items off my plate. Either delegate, reschedule or finish up small items so the overwhelming amount can get smaller.

All good advice. I have pretty bad anxiety myself and am going through some family stuff on top of insane deadlines at work. Yesterday I called in for a mental healthy day and cleaned my house. It made me feel so much better. I also listen to music and take a walk in nature to help me, but talking it out to a sympathetic listener helps the most!
